Usually brand new emo amps have a funny smell. But it usually goes away in one or two days. I've never noticed it on my upa-2 though. I don't know if it's normal for it to be still there 2 weeks later.

I would see if anything appears to be hotter in any spots than the other one you have...assume you do have more than one.

A "warm rubber" smell, eh? That's not right,...but it operates as expected otherwise? You've been running it for two week huh, and the smell has - stayed the same? gotten less?, or gotten worse over that time? I assume its not that great (intoxicating!) 'new electronics' smell that we all love so much?! If the smell doesn't dissipate/lessen soon, and (as another poster asked), or if one part of it's cabinet is unusually warm/hot, then I'd call Emo's customer service. Good luck.

denverbuck: Something different - can you make any comparison SQ wise between the XPA-100 and XPA-2? Thank you!

XPA-100 sounds great...Have it running my center Polk CSI A6. Im not an expert to know the difference between a dual vs mono amp but I like the sound performance of the XPA-100. Perhaps b/c I have it running my center where tends to be the focus of a system.
as for the smell been able to isolate at the power transformer. has an over heating/acid/burn smell. Assume that is not good? Guess I should call them
Do they still do the 30 day trail period?

Is the smell getting less in intensity now that you've had the unit for a couple of days? Does it come on right away when you turn on the amp or does it take time?
In any case, call Emotiva Support. They do have the 30-day trial period and your amp is under warranty for 5 years.

Guess I should call them could the smell be toxic... transformers outside have pcb polychlorinated benzene in them one of the most toxic carcinogens known to man.. dont inhale it.. cheers Do they still do the 30 day trail period?
