HI Everyone,
figured I would write up a detailed review of my "new" xpa-5 which I bought from LCSeminole here at the lounge.
I paid for it on Tuesday morning, he was gracious enough to tape it up (like fort knox ) and ship it out before FedEx closed, so it went our SAME DAY!!
Friday I was home at 2pm (my wife was home since 11am) and I NEVER left the living room near the front door (plus I have a dog that barks at a squirrel fart) I get an email notification the delivery was attempted but noone was at home!!! my guess is the driver thought screw this its late on Friday Im not carrying this 90lb box up that driveway lol.
So i went and got the package, but still had to wait a few hours as I had to run a HS bball game (I am an AD)
Get home unhook all the connections to my onkyo 809 and hook this badboy up. I was concerned it wouldn't fit in my credenza but it fit like a charm....not as heavy as I thought either (must be all the HGH i take )
run the audeyssey XT and off we go.....I couldn't listen to loud levels as the wife was in bed, but could already tell a big difference(also a concern that i woldnt be able to tell a difference)....the detail and clarity of the low level with music was astounding...sharp and clean with GREAT directionality...big big sounding stage...it definitley opened up my axis of listening..
Saturday I opened her up a little during the football games...during halftime I changed to HBO (green lantern was on) let me tell you I always thought cable delivered a bad 5.1 sound...not with this amp..i was floored.
then after the wife went to work...I cranked up some Floyd to -5db. then I switched on the fly from stereo to PLII music and the EMo shut down with the second LED blinking red
I panicked and came on here for advise and it was answered VERY quickly to figure it was loose interconnects! (ordered some new ones immediately haha) From then on it was PURE sex for my ears!!
Finding Nemo at -3db I have watched this about 60 times since it came on blu-ray...mys ons favorite...I heard sound effects and off screen comments more than ever before...some I didnt know were there!!!
Then onto Dredd...wowo the sound in this movie was awesome...what a great disc to open this amp up to!!
SO other than my initial sna-fu with the interconnect this thing just sings!! Its one of those things that I am actually MAD I didnt hear about it and buy one sooner!! I cant stop grinning while listening to this thing!
Cant say enough about this community too...very happy to be part of the lounge!!
