I'm thinking it's a ground loop issue.
Have you tried plugging in the XPA-2 and the AVR into separate wall outlets? Preferably each being on a separate A/C circuit. Worth testing.

Hmm... I've never heard any humming of any sort from my Emotiva Amps + 4311ci combination. The 4311ci is a on a different circuit from the dedicated power amp circuits though.

AVS forum said: "Disconnect the 2-ch phono cable feeding the amp. Touch the two ground sleeves together." I disconect (2) rca L & R rear the XPA-2. I'm confused, How and where do I touch two ground sleeves? Thank you.

Also experiencing no hum from my Denon 4311ci and Emotiva xpa 2 and 5 amps. Both amps are plugged into separate wall outlets but probably on the same circuit.

This is what I did to fix my ground loop issue: Low hum sound from front speakers.....
I connected a ground wire from my Pioneer Elite VSX-01 receiver.....loosened a chassis screw and clamped the wire underneath on the back......ran that to my surge protector which has a ground screw........hum gone.
You can buy plastic coated ground wires and your local hardware store.

Can I use speaker wire as solid ground wire? Do I have to ground both 4311ci & XPA-2? Thank you.

However, I don't see why you can't try solid core speaker cable. Start with the 4311ci to your surge protector......that fixed my issue......I did not have to also ground the amp.

I did the same from my UMC-1 and XPA-5 to my Monster Power HTS 5100 ground post. Works like a charm.

I just tried 14 Gauge speaker cable didn't work. I will buy solid copper ground wire after work try. How many Gauge solid copper ground wire should I buy? I have this surge protector: www.belkin.com/support/dl/p74522_ap41300-12_manual.pdfI need to connect from 4311ci rear (signal ground port OR loosened a chassis screw) to surge protector #17 (pg.6)? Thank you

I connected from a loosened chassis screw on the side of the components to the ground post. You may need one from the Denon and the XPA-2. Yes, the ground post on the rear of the Belkin - #17 on page 6.
Let us know,

Unplug your TVs power cord. If the hum went away it was the TVs ground. I just busted the ground pin off the plug and it fixed my hum but it can be risky. My TV needs to be upgraded anyway so if it goes dead i'm okay with that

Coming from a 4311 -- With the little info that you have on the gear before the emotiva amp I am making a assumption that you were using the internal amps in the 4311 before you put a power amp in the mix. Before spending money I would suggest looking at the interconnects.
1. Disconnect the interconnects. Do you still hear the hum? If not we eliminated the output of the amp. If yes - Call Emotiva for support and warranty work
2. Are you hearing hum out of both speakers or just one? 2a. If both are they of equal loudness? If no, try a different interconnect or move the interconnect around to see if the hum changes. If a interconnect changes the amount of hum at all then there is a problem with your connections / cables (most likely) or how your cables are run (less likely).
Now given this I also have a hum on all my def techs when connected to a amp. This is present on both BK amps and emotiva amps. The hum is not audible from my listening position and is withing my tolerance to get the benefits of a external amp.

Let us know, C Try one from the Denon and one from the XPA-2......you don't need a large guage to do this.......let us know if that works or not........it may also be a loose RCA cable as suggested above.....I have had loose RCA cables from the amp that cause a hum.......

I found the Hum problem. Do Not purchase this kind cable from Monoprice.com: www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10236&cs_id=1023603&p_id=6306&seq=1&format=2&Manually%20EnteredI bought 13 this kind cable for XPA-2, (2) Sub and on the way (2) XPA-5. First thing I did with Hum issuse maybe bad cable, so exchange. But no way all 13 new cables are bad. Either my new XPA-2 OR 4311ci have Hum problem. In AVS forum (pg.687, post 20609) I tried Roger steps result No Hum on XPA-2. So my XPA-2 good. I also tried Cawgijoe steps but still Hum. I so frustrated. Some how I came up, how about use cheap regular basic Red & White RCA my old dvd player in storage. Guest what: NO MORE HUM. Now I do not know what to do with 13 new cables. Return shipping may cost same I bought these cables. This kind cable suspose is highest quality and most expensive RCA cable on Monoprice.com??? Thank you very much everyone.

Grin... I have at least 20 of those same monoprice RCA-RCA cables, including the ALL interconnects between 4311ci and all four of my Emotiva power amps -- not to mention 3 other emotiva configurations.
Not one of them hums -- in fact I just bought another dozen of them.

Happy the problem was found and fixed. I can't imagine that all those cables are bad. I have used the very same cables from Monoprice with no issues. I would try to figure out which cable or cables are bad so you can at least use the good ones.

This is a debated issue around here. But I think that most likely the issue is due to the cable and its location creating a problem with interference. Try using the cables at another location and I bet they wont have the same issue. I had troubles in the past using coax for my connections. I switched to monster and it brought the hum way down. Now I use emotiva cables and the hum is inaudible from my listening position. (I think it has to do with my lighting but stopped researching since its no longer bothersome).
sent from my phone. sorry for the short response. Tony

I got bad batch cable. What should I set my 4311ci to use all 11.2 channel external AMP in Audyssey Auto Setup: Amp Assign? Thank you.

If you have all external amps (11 channels) you can go for pre-amp mode where none of the internal amps are "used". Otherwise you can "leave open" 2 channels(since there are only 9 amps in the 4311ci) for external amplification. The choices are front or rear-surround using external amps. If you have a strong 2 channel Emo amp only, I would use it for the fronts.
Btw: You can also just not connect your speakers to "some" of the 4311ci speaker outs and instead route whichever channels you want from the pre-amp outputs (via interconnects) to how ever many power amplifiers you currrently have. You do not have to live with the front or rear only options offered in Amp Assign.
