First let me say how impressed I am with the packaging and attention to detail by Emotiva and their XPA-5. Double boxing, protective anti-static equipment wrapping, spiral -bound instruction manual, full and complete details on how to remove amp from packaging. This company is first rate and so are their products. Warning!!! This amp is a beast and if you are suffering from any hip or back problems (like I am), get help when lifting out of the boxes. I went it alone and barely made the lift onto the rack where the amp is situated. Fits perfectly and looks great.
Now to my opinion of the XPA-5...Simply amazing! I replaced the front L/C/R and the two Surround channels of my 9.2 Onkyo 5009 receiver. The front speakers are Polk RTi12, CSIa6 and Speakercraft for the surrounds. I was cautious about expecting a huge difference in sound as I was powering the system with last year's top of the line Onkyo receiver at 145 watts per channel. However that figure is for only two channels driven, not 5, 7 or 9 channels.
After making the connections with new Emotiva component interconnects, also just received, I immediately noticed an amazing improvement in the sound quality. Even music from my computer that I listen to through the DLNA Net connection was spacious, detailed, clear, defined and powerful. At moderate listening levels I was hearing a nice amount of bass and low end tones from the Polk RTi12's. I was hearing clear high frequencies not heard before. I then proceeded to play a few Cd's and was completely blown away by the overall control the amp has over the speakers. Even at loud levels, no stress, no distortion no wavering. Just clean pure music in two channel stereo or in nine channel DTS Neo X: Music settings.
My wife came in from shopping and sat down in our family room and started listening. She commented how clear and full the sound was. She also liked the looks of the amp. Blended nicely with the rest of the system.
I am completely satisfied with my purchase of the XPA-5...now I may upgrade my Blu-ray player to the Oppo 103 and /or do I have room for an XPA-2 to really push the Polk Rti ;D12's??
Happy as can be!
