I've been cable-free for 2.5 years now. The savings have already paid for 2 XPR-1's and 2 XDA-2's, and the freedom from the mindlessness of TV content has been priceless.

I read it, but I do like sports. I haven't checked for all sports/content but I know a lot of the professional sports offer packages for web based viewing.

I would be cable free if I could get all the ESPN/NESN channels via another method. I could easily live with OTA HD via an antenna for local major network channels, but I watch way too many sports to ditch cable just yet. Sports are my second love after music/audio.
I vote for TV à la carte, with maybe a $25/mo fee for a dozen channels would be ideal.

I don't either. Its the crap that I'm paying for and don't want that pisses me off. Every time I have to talk to Dish I ask them when they are going to offer ala carte. I'd only need a few dozen channels - instead I get 250+ because thats where the channels I want are offered.
They keep telling me they are working on it. Yeah - when pigs fly. Or the government steps in and forces them to offer ala carte. I'd take the pig in a bet.

In fact I was on the phone with Charter twice this week telling them the same thing. After the last anti cable post. I bought a ROKU and hooked the Wii up to net fix and love it. I will save $100.00 per month. They will still get me $75.00 for the Internet and phone. Our cell service is poor it is like the wakie talkies we had as kids it just plain sucks. And with two elderly parents I need to be in touch .So they still get me there.

Unless you don't have a surround system Why would you use the Wii for Netflix, the ROKU and alot of blu-ray players support Netflix with surround sound via HDMI while the Wii is 2 channel via component outputs.

I'm with cox and pay $93.76 a month for HD and the DVR. I would love to ditch them but I'm a slave for a good picture and I love HGTV, and the Food Network, SyFy HD, AMC HD Walking Dead so many shows. The tv is like family it goes on when I get up and off when I goto bed. They got me at least for now.

You probably wouldn't watch many of the channels I watch. A good argument for ala carte. I've thought about buying a few more receivers and antennas and set up a few friends with Dish too. Then we could split the cost three ways. Can't do that with cable.

i recently did this.. (mentioned in another thread)
was paying 200$ month for TWC for net, dig. cable with all the premiums, home dvr, 3 boxes etc... turned in everything, even got my own modem..
kept my internet and standard thru the wall cable (77ch) with local HDs.. for 59$
saving my 1800 a year@!

WELL becuse I'm old.. I only have 2 chanel stereo the way God intended us to have . So no 5.1,7.3,8.9 or whatever surround jazz. If I want to see a movie like that I go to the old fashion movie theater. And buy pop corn that will kill me and see the BIG picture. I have three TVs (yes they are flat screens)so I hooked the ROKU up to one and the Wii up to the other. I do run them stereo though. The reason for the Wii is my son never plays it. He plays Xbox. The ROKU is $85.00 and I already have the Wii so why not use it?
