Hi Guys, I need a small, cheap player that must be able to play when being charged with a USB to wall-wart charger. It will be used as an ersatz music-on-hold device connected to an old telephone system, so again it has to be able to output sound while be being charged as it will be forever sitting in the phone system closet just playing a single track on repeat. I bought a Coby MP601 but found out after the fact that it won't play when being charged so it is useless for this application - I assumed it would work only because the only player I own does (Ipod 8GB Nano). TIA for any help.

I believe my Sansa E280 will do what you want. Plus, you can install the RockBox OS and have a *very* nice player with a jillion configuration options incl. a parametric EQ as well as playback of most of the std. file formats - FLAC, OGG, WAV, MP3, etc. And RockBox is *free*. The Sansa cost me about $65...

+1 On the Sansa. I have a Fuze and it will do what you are looking to do. You should be able to score a refurb for around $25.
