Thought I'd start looking around and listening to some speakers at some hi fi shops here in Houston just to get a compare to my Axiom M80s. I'm ready to upgrade and get something better. Of course I need to figure out what I mean by better first!!! ;D My first and only stop today was to listen to some PSB Imagine T floorstanders @ $2200 a pair. They had Paradigm and B&W but I only heard the PSBs. Sounded great but that was only my first stop. Also listened to some Sonas Faber but wasn't too impressed. What has really blown me away is the "new car sticker shock". I had the T2s and the KEF R700 & R900 on my wish list until I found out their prices. Yipes!!! KEF does have the Q series which might be worth a listen. Hopefully I can listen to some tomorrow. I'm also interested in the Tektons but those are all ID so no preview.

If you have a Monitor Audio dealer in town you should take a listen to the RX6 or RX8's, I really enjoy mine and here in Canada they were around $1600 taxes in and I think the RX8's were in the $2200 range. Too many speakers to try hey lol, good luck in your search.

My theory on speaker shopping is this. Listen to as many as you can paying as little attention to the brand or the price as you can. Listen using music you like and are very familiar with. Then when you find that speaker that just sounds right to you, set your sights on buying it. If it's in your current price range, great, and if not save until you can grab them - even used and years later. Once you get the idea of what sounds great to you in your head, don't settle for less until you can get them.

I would see if there are some Salk owners nearby who will let you audition their speakers (there is a thread listing them on audiocircle). All the salk speakers I've heard are phenomenal performers at their price point.

You know what really amazes me these days, most of these people have RAISED the price of their speakers and their COSTS have decreased since moving to China. B&W was shocking to me. And Def Tech too. Sickening.

If you get a chance to listen to Phase Technologies PC series (probably the PC-9.5 would be up your alley). They have a MSRP of about $4,000 a pair but you should be able to get them for around $2,400 if you can wheel and deal. Great speakers at a great price.

Took me 12 years but I finally snagged a pair!

I got the ERT 8.2 at 1200 (it was 800 at clearance !!!!) And never looked back, or forward.
I am set for the foreseeable future. The leap these are from what I had heard before on my own setup or anyone else's is just ridiculous.

Me, I'm still looking for that set of used MBL Radialstrahler 101X speakers for under $20K. I don't really expect to find them, but I can dream... as Motorhead might say, "The Chase is Better Than the Catch."

I spent some time listening to those MBL's, and to my ears they were the most accurate sounding speaker I've ever heard, as well as best sounding. I however won't be affording them anytime soon!

Yep, the will likely remain my unattainable goal. Besides, if I ever did find that I could afford them I'd have to build a new house to have room for them.

I do like their sound. They are on my wish list too. Plus, they look like they belong in the Tardis.

These YG speakers are the best ones I've ever heard. Ever. $77,000.00 50K in electronics didn't hurt either :-)

I know that if I win the lottery I'd buy those Radialstrahler MBLs... they're THE BEST speakers I've ever heard (and I've heard a few!).
