Isn't it clip detect lights on the XPR-5? I know XPR-1 has.

I understood (or was told by someone else on this forum) that the LEDs on the XPR series amps really don't really signify much except relative channel output. I'd like it if an Emo tech could clarify exactly what we're seeing when those jump to 2, 3, 4, or 5+ LEDs! Does it mean full output for that channel when the LEDs go ALL the way up? Or,...? I like watching them sometimes, but Mrs. Mad Norseman wants me to turn them off,...killjoy! ).

I'm pretty sure that it does, but I've never managed to clip mine either.
Norseman - I recall reading the same thing. I wouldn't mind confirmation too. I know there has been some mysticism regarding the LED scaling..

I think they all flash red at first power on. So you've confirmed that when you clip it (or hit PEAK, if it's not clipping yet) , the top one goes red?

Youre probably right about the LED's being able to change color. That being said, an LED at the very top of a paticular channel will flash RED when that same channel is clipping. Ive done it a few times. The first time it scared the crap out of me! Lets just say refence levels and soundtracks that are mixed HOT are not a good mix. ;D

Thank you for confirming this! If your ears are bleeding when the amp clips depends a lot on your speakers. Remember that clipping also happens when you are pushing the speaker over it's limit and not just if the amplifier run out of power to the speakers. I was afraid the XPR-5 didn't have clip indicators since I thought the peak LEDs didn't go any higher even the volume was a lot higher. My Radioshack decible meter just passed 128dB in sweetspot with my Klipsch RF-7's (I have video proof), I can tell you that my ears wasn't far away from bleeding...

Jim's right that they all show red all the way up upon 'power-on' each time, but after that I've yet to hit the red one at the top of any channel! Guess I need to push the system a bit harder!
