Is there a deep technical reason why the XDA-2 remote has the volume up button on the left, while the XSP-1 has it on the right? The XSP-1 also has –/+ labels below the buttons while the XDA-2 doesn't. It must be because there's more room on that remote. Oh, and they left the "ON" button off the XSP-1 remote.

Not having the XSP-1, does the "STANDBY" button have double duty turning it on and off? Oh yeah, I doubt there is any rhyme or reason for the placement or omittance of certain remote buttons.

Yeah, the standby button is a toggle on the XSP-1 remote. Anyway, I hope it doesn't come across too grumpy – I'm just suggesting minor improvements, although I do believe the volume buttons are a real usability issue for people who use both devices as preamps. Other issues: XDA uses the label "Inputs" while the XSP likes "Sources". In both cases, the order on the remote does not match the order on the device. I'm guessing at least 80% of the button presses on these remotes have to do with volume. If I was to suggest a single change, it would definitely be to make the buttons more prominent and more easily reachable from the standard way of gripping a remote (i.e. the buttons should be naturally reachable with the thumb on the remote hand). Panasonic does a decent job of this, although I really wish the damn numeric buttons finally died:

We don't want you boys falling asleep!! Gotta' keep you on your toes... Seriously, these little things like this are being sorted out as we "mature" in to a soulless, faceless, heartless, consumer electronics behemoth... how's that for an answer?? Ha! Actually we are going to try to get better about this type of stuff. We have different teams working on different product types, and sometimes we miss the mark on these details.... In the interim, think of it as an artisan's product. Quirky, but cool. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Peace, Big Dan

BTW, if it was labeled KRELL, you wouldn't even DARE to ask why we did it this way!!!
You would consider it a privilege just to be able to touch the backward buttons!! And pay $10k to do so.
Now, get back in your place, regular person!

Ha! Personally I think the differential button layouts in various products are there on purpose and designed to make us long for that Emotiva Universal Remote! ;D Hmm, then the remote model range might be UUR-1, XUR-1 and RUR-1. Of course they'll all have an Emo-blue LED!

I vote for a touch screen remote with a black and blue OLED that controls all of my equipment and comes with the bluetooth built in to work with the (soon to be released?) dongle for the UMC-200 and future XMC-1.

Now, get back in your place, regular person! Yes sir, thank you sir, may I have another . You guys might be even more suspicious to the general public if you fix the remotes. Right now, when people ask me what the catch is with Emotiva, I have the remotes to point out. Once that's gone, I'll have nothing .

As an aside, if you are ever looking for good remotes to model yours after, I think that the TiVo remote controls are very good in the hand. You can pick it up and know exactly where most all the important buttons are without looking. The shape fits easily in the hand, the buttons are easy to feel. The important ones are all right within reach. On the other hand, I have a harmony 890 and I hate it. Too many buttons and they are hard to differentiate. Attachments:

Totally agreed re Tivo remote. I haven't used the thing in years and still recall its ease of use.

Big Dan and Lonnie are working on a new Universal Remote. It requires an implanted transceiver to your brain. All you have to do is "think" about the function you want to activate and it automatically happens. You don't even have to physically touch anything once the implant has been installed. A RF signal is sent from your implant to operate your gear anywhere in the house. It will be called the ECX -- Emotiva Cerebral eXchange. ;D This is really the "Game Changer" that is coming from Emotiva, right Dan? Is this also the new tube gear they have been hinting at? Because, everything is better with tubes and you'll also be recognized as a true Emotiva fan when people see the tubes sticking out of your head.

No offense but next time can you post images that do not cause most of us to have to scroll to read all the posts? Will be happy to oblige by any rules that limit the image size. Haven't seen any. When's the last time you saw a thread you didn't need to scroll? Scrolling is a fact of life and PageDown is your friend. Actually I would appreciate it if people would limit the sizes as well so as not to scroll, but then it's all relative. At work I have a very wide monitor so I rarely have to scroll but at home the monitor is not as wide so for the same picture seen at work there would be no scrolling needed but at home I do. I would imagine on mobile devices it is even worse. So there can't be any hard and fast rule about picture size but I'd like to just say that when a very wide picture is posted it affects the alignment of all the posts on the page (I always refresh the screen to look at the 60 most recent) so you have to scroll not only for the wide picture but for every other post on the page as well. My request is for people to please just post a reasonable sized picture since most don't need to be that big to get the idea across.

At work on my PC I have to scroll sideways to read the threads. PITA. Agreed on the Proboards edits.

When's the last time you saw a thread you didn't need to scroll? Scrolling is a fact of life and PageDown is your friend. Horizontal scrolling is not the "norm" here and that is where your images caused the issues. To read the post and the poster's information required scrolling left to right (horizontal). It is a common courtesy. Outside of your post, I haven't had to scroll horizontally for a long time. When using/posting images, do a preview and see if it all fits on the screen or do you have to scroll horizontally.

I'm sorry I made you scroll, but your suggestion isn't going to work – I did a preview and didn't have to scroll. Chrome on Mac OS, the window was 1280 pixels wide. Maybe you've set your browser to a non-standard zoom level? 1920 x 1280 resolution at 100% on a 27" monitor...have you looked at your actual post to see what it ended up looking like??
