I've got a new pair of airmotiv4's and am liking them, so starting to think about desktop stands, at least ones that don't break the bank(!). I've tried the little Audioengine tilted stands on 3" of books and am now playing with them without tilt (as Emotiva suggests) on 11" of books, which brings the speaker tops to mid-ear level. To give a sense of what I'm dealing with, the desk is 32x66, with a 24" monitor back center (22.5 x 14.25). I've found best speaker positioning so far with these and other speakers is an equilateral triangle from sitting position of about 37", off axis a little to the inside with the closest edge about 5" out from the wall. I've developed a list of ten speaker stand companies and possibilites, from Auralex foam to Wood Technology stands. What I'm most interested in about here are thoughts and suggestions about what's worked (and not worked) for others. I'm not particularly interested in DIY beyond anything very simple. Thanks,

Very inventive, although as indicated I already have the AE stands from trying out their A2s. But I'm wondering about height and tilt. One can set up speakers anyway they want, but unlike Audioengine and PSB (Alpha 1) which consider tilt ok and offer tilted stands, in the speaker's manual Emotiva explicitly recommends no tilt and head height placement. Have you found no difference in sound? I'm still breaking in the speakers, but so far I've found the top end a little forward, which could make it amenable to tilt at whatever height. Thanks,

I bought these for $59/pr from NHT and they are a good fit. They are not perfectly black/black on the front. I plan to give them a coat of satin flat black Krylon spray paint to darken them. www.nhthifi.com/DeskStand-for-SuperPower?sc=12&category=1215I have no idea why Emo says not to tilt them. These work good for my computer desk. The tweeters are pointed directly at my head.

Thanks, I had come across those NHTs and was uncertain about how their angle would work.
I decided to call Emotiva and Nick there in support said he has no idea why the no tilt rec either, since he uses them on tilted stands. So I guess that solves that for now.

Anybody looking for stands really should check out ours. They are a solid slab of MDF painted black - and not some hollow piece of plastic. They stay where you put them, and have a nice fuzzy pad on top and footsies on the bottom. They also have a nice little lip on the front edge (so you can put them up high and have the speaker tilted down without worrying about it sliding off the shelf). You really aren't going to do better for under $30. They also give you some isolation. [If you want a ridiculous amount of isolation, then pick up a set of Sorbothane feet on Amazon or eBay and put them on the bottom ]

I'd use door stops as well. You can get them at HD for under 5 bucks.
