So I got rid of my Polk center, some xtra Polk towers, an older 8'' sub and my Pioneer DVD player to my mom for her setup in her basement and tomorrow I am heading into the big city for the weekend and am stopping by Creative Audio to grab a new center channel. My 2 options in my price range are 1 - Monitor Audio BX center at $299 2 - Monitor Audio RX Center at $765 I really really want the RX so it matches my towers as I have the RX6 towers but also there is a big price difference in the two, when I asked the salesman on the phone he said the RX would sound better....which I'm sure it will but does the price difference match the sound difference....hmmmmm but like I said it would look a lot better with my RX6 towers and I will have it for a very long time as I have no plans or funds for speaker upgrades/changes. anyone have any input other then what I have mentioned....

If there is any way you can demo both, that would be highly recommended. Otherwise, I would follow your heart and get what you really want, price be darned. IMO, the center channel is the most important for HT, so it's best not to skimp there. Here are a few key phrases that make me believe the RX Centre will be the better investment long term: I really really want the RX so it matches my towers as I have the RX6 towers... it would look a lot better with my RX6 towers... I will have it for a very long time as I have no plans or funds for speaker upgrades/changes... The only con you mention is price. I've taken a look at both, and if it were me, I'd lean towards the timbre-matched and aesthetically-matched RX Centre over the BX Centre. I just think you'd be happier overall, and the sting of the RX price will diminish after a short time. I had a similar decision to make last year. I decided to "do it right" the first time. Absolutely no regrets.

I hear ya, i was thinking of offering $700 even though he said the msrp is $849 and they sell for $765 which I think is kind of a crappy way to make the customer think they are already giving a deal lol. but yeah I should just do the right thing the first time.

It's easy to sit here and suggest spending $765 or whatever for a speaker. It's easy to say "get this or that," but I have had to live with regrets in the past. I've bought one thing because it was cheaper, even though I really wanted another, and sometimes ended up getting what I wanted in the first place anyway. In some cases, I've actually spent more money by buying twice than just doing it right the first time.
Of course, there are reasonable limits here. Choosing a Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S over a Honda Accord, just because I want the former, would be quite silly. In your case, the price difference between the BX and RX isn't a hundred thousand dollars. Just ask yourself two questions: is the RX Centre within your price range, and will you ever regret not getting the RX? ;D

I have to chime in here. If you have the funds to do so get the RX. Many times in this hobby I have settled for it is less money and good enough. Big mistake every time. Get the RX, get back home and enjoy with no regret.
Good luck.

A year from now the price difference won't even register, but the regret would...

The BX line is not very good IMO. It's just cheap mass stuff to fill in the gap for people looking to get into their product line. Go for the RX center!!!!!!!!

Yeah I need to get around to doing a DIY build one day, just go 15'' prob as I'm not sure if I can fit a box with an 18'' driver in it in the rec room lol but 18'' would be nice though.... maybe next fall or winter I can start that project. I head back to Brandon tomorrow as we are sticking around to do a meet and greet with a few dogs as we are looking at adopting one.

Got the new RX Center in the setup now, looks a lot nicer matching and all and is sounding pretty sweet the little I have listened to it so far.
