You say that there are lots of pa amps that put out lots of power but sound bad/if not used the way they are intended......So there are good and bad sounding PA amps is what you are getting at......? So it's exactly the same as HT consumer amps being good and bad...... I don't know why you are singling out pro stuff when it's universal for all amps. I think he was saying that just like everything else, people design and purchase items based on their "needs" and that in the pro audio space there are lots of very different needs. Its not about good or bad... it's about meeting needs. If you have a giant PA system at a stadium, you only need the sound quality to be good enough, but you need gobs and gobs of power. There is so much other noise and interference in the space that extra distortion isn't a problem. But you need 6k watts... It's not a BAD amp, it's just an amp for a different set of needs. In your terms of BAD amps, they would view a 100W amp with 0.0001 distortion as being bad amp since it couldn't drive their whole PA system. The main thing here is that PRO audio is a much wider "needs" space. There are PA/DJ/Live show needs that are very different than studio needs. And those needs may or may not align with audiophile needs. For instance, studios might be happy to trade fan noise for the ability to pack it tightly in a rack, since the devices are all not in the room where they are listening. At any rate, there is nothing inherently wrong with PRO audio devices as a class of devices, but there are some devices that aren't right for audiophiles... and people have to be more careful.

This from a guy who blows the windows out in his house with his system. He probably has stadium lighting in his bathrooms. What the hay- light is light! huh? You've failed the internet I'm afraid..... He was clearly refering to your PA setup apperantly used in your home. I am sure you have your reasons and it must fit your needs. I suspect movie night at your place is fun.

So I had 2 running for a bit but one of the drivers has a defective spider and had to be re-coned. I had all my driver playing together for a day or so. Had a friend come over with his pro spl meter, good to 140 dB's....... We threw on some tones and 20hz at 140dB? pffft,. childs play boys. We had it maxing out with power to spare hehehehehe. I'll have some graphs and pics once my new driver gets back. We hammered it at 50hz as well, it was like being in a SLP comp's car I will say I likely won't do that very often, I've never heard a house beg for mercy like that before. I blew out 2 of the basement windows, shook the 32" tv off it's stand in the next room and blew out 9 light bulbs ( as in blow the filament )in the basement alone hahaha. I could only imagine if I had a wood sub floor...... Oh and I bought 4 more FTW 21's and I'm getting some custome JTR speakers made as well!! ahhhh yaaa lol I don't appreciate your inference about my internet failure. This is what you said.

I just don't think someone would spend that kind of money without good reason. I am open to the possibility that he either has an inordinately gigantic movie room or an outside theater. I am sure there are many other possibilities but those are to most obvious to me.

Well, It's not a PA system, it's my basement HT. I just loving buying new stuff to try out and thats the only reason. Money is not an issue, my wife and I do very well and it's not a concern we will ever have (to an extent of course) I just like to try out new stuff and she could care less, it's a win win ;D i like swapping out gear for new gear, only to try it out, not because something sounds better/worse though my JTR Noesis speakers won't be going anywhere anytime soon, they are the best speakers I've ever had by a long shot and right up there with the best I've ever heard. They are really something.

I'm glad you enjoy the hobby and your system. Most of us are passionate about our audio and video setups and sometimes the rhetoric veils the main issue - enjoyment of music and entertainment. Peace!

Agree, and theres seems to be a few who like to engage in the rhetoric all the time. We won't name any names though.

Yup, it's a fun hobby. We all get enjoyment out of it in different ways, whether it be buying new gear, researching new gear on the net, forums, meets etc. It's a great way to meet new people in your area as well (if you can find a group etc). I have people over quite often I don't know that I meet on forums.
I only know 1 other person in my area that has JTR stuff and it's my old JTR stuff hahaha. I've had numerous guys come over just to check it out and hear what the fuss is all about on these forums and AVS. I've also done over 50 audyssey pro installs when I had my kit and got to meet lots of good people with terrible to amazing systems, I keep in touch in case they or I decide to swap gear etc. It took 3-4 hours depending on if I had to move everything around first or not. The funniest system I ever did was a guy had a 4311 and some old infinity speakers from the or 70's that were in terrible shape and a bloody (actual blood from 15 years ago when he cut his hand moving them LOL) pair of Reference Standard I's. What amazing speakers. He put a towel over the tweeters because it was too harsh sounding he said LOL. If you see a pic of the speakers, you'll see why thats funny. After the pro install they were simply amazing, the surrounds were horrid and he ended up getting some older vintage infinitys to match. It went from a terribly setup system to amazing in a few hours. But I also did a full Wilson MAXX 3 system with 5 identical speakers and the Thor's hammer sub. He had a integra 80.3 of all things and Krell mono's for power. He just liked the integra the best he said, which was good for me since I had one and knew it well. That was one amazing system except for the sub. It wasn't that great of a sub SLP wise for his HT, though neither were the MAXX 3's, His room was 3600 cf and they ran out of steam at very high volumes, even with 1000 watt monos. The install really did make a nice difference with music and movies. I still keep in touch with Wayne and I know he's since had 6 x 18" LMS-U's installed and a creat CA 18 for each sub. It was 1/30th the price of thors hammer and was about ummmmm... a billion times better! He's also went class D with the D-sonic 1500 watt modules Dennis is offering but I haven't had a chance to hear the system yet with them in the mix. Wayne changes out his entire system every 2 years no matter if he likes it or not. His wife died a few years ago and he used to own some huge carpet company and is sitting on, as he says " Enough money that I could change out my system every 6 months with 300-400K worth of gear and still have enough for a terrible drug addiction" hahahaha. It's a great time meeting guys like that, I could sit and talk to that guys for hours... and generally do!

The last time I was in the local high end store Ron the owner had a crappy pair of class D Hegels driven by a crappy Cary SLP feeding a crappy pair of Maggie 1.7's. The sound was nothing short of craptacular. Now just substitute your favorite adjective. The part of this statement that is really hilarious is that Hegel has never made a class D amp...only class A/B.
