Anybody DIY? It would be so much fun to build a quality sub myself and I could probably save some cash that way too while still getting good performance. Be sure and check out Rythmik Audio's kits. Would need to build your own enclosures. Rythmik offers plans. www.rythmikaudio.com/products2.html

If you're serious about DIY, there are plenty of resources on the Interwebz to help you.

The OP plans to use the Sub in his LISTENING area, not HOME THEATER.
Does anybody know a musical instrument capable of producing 20hz and below?

Does anybody know a musical instrument capable of producing 20hz and below? Some pipe organs can produce 16Hz notes.

Parts Express kits are good. Their subs are built for them by Eminence so they are very good quality.

Not a very sophisticated decision process on my part. There are others on the Internet saying nice things about Rythmik and the servo driver stuff sounds impressive. Part of the motivation was the opportunity to do another woodworking project. Also, I don't have subs and my mains don't play very low (from what I've been told).

I guess this thread was originally looking for recommendations... SVS. These people are amazing! Outstanding Subs! Easily...without any doubt...the MOST SATISYING audio purchase I've made in over 30 yrs. SVS doesn't "sell"... They "coach"...and the results are immediately audible! When you're finished dabbling, and are in the mood for Pro Quality Bass.... Www.svsound.com

...Does anybody know a musical instrument capable of producing 20hz and below? In fact, I have quite a library of organ music and like to hear the fundamentals. Additionally, I have a variety of synthesizer music including electronica where subsonics are routinely included. Finally, I have a variety of rap music designed primarily for auto use (DJ Magic Mike, etc.) where subsonics are not only used but featured as a primary asset of the music. No, the average rock band doesn't typically have any instruments that even come close to 20 Hz., but that doesn't mean that 20 Hz. (or below) performance is inappropriate for a home music system. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Does anybody know a musical instrument capable of producing 20hz and below? DefTech specifically designed a sub to replace the largest organ pipes--the SuperCube Trinity: " Developed for the electronic organ at New York's historic Trinity Church with a 2000 Watt Class D amplifier driving two 14 inch woofers pressure coupled to four 14 inch Ultra Low Bass radiators producing in excess of 128 db at 20 Hz and 116 db at 16 Hz in a normal room"

The trinity is a good sub but I'd LOVE to know what their definition of a "normal room" is.

Yo N8....
Who knows what a " normal room" really is....
Do any of us have one?
One of the reasons I shout so loudly for SVS is that THEY designed their products in a manner that allow you to tune your sub to YOUR room's definition of "normal"
Man...it makes a BIG difference.
Ed Mullen at SVS is my "Bass Guru"...and he has NOT ONCE steered me wrong!
That man KNOWS Bass!!!!
Chat with Ed...and see what real pro sounds like. He can put his knowledge to work for YOU. Lots of math & science is cool...but Ed can put it into terms anyone understands, and THAT folks...is a real talent!
What an awesome resource the SVS team has been...no extra charge.
Wow.

I've owned (and reviewed here on the Lounge) a DefTech Trinity. The WAF was low for various reasons, and I let it go. It was an amazing subwoofer, though!

If I was to ever buy a pre-built sub again, SVS and a few others would be on the top of my list. Thats why I like building my own, I build exactly what I want/need for my room

A pair of SVS PB-1000s would be impressive.
