Has anyone used the JL Audio Tools app on an iPhone/iPad with a UMC-200? I'm contemplating having a go at using the excellent PEQ features of the UMC-200 to see what sort of sound quality improvement I can achieve. I have been using a tape measure plus a stand alone SPL meter for a few years on a number of AVR's and processor so I'm familiar with that level of set up. Plus of course automated correction, Audyssey and EmoQ. The step up to a 1/3-octave band real time analyser will require some help from you guys with experience. The obvious questions that come to mind; 1. How useful have you found the JL Audio RTA app ($11 seems OK value)? 2. For low frequency measurement I have heard that an iPhone 5 is superior to previous iPhone versions and all iPad versions. Have you found this to be the case? Or is an external calibrated microphone (eg; iTest Mic for $199) essential? 3. What is the procedure you have followed? Considering that I have already set the 5.1 speaker distances and balanced the SPL's. 4. How was the result, compared to, say, no correction and/or EmoQ? Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks for the microphone tip, I'll add it to the list. Update: I just had a talk to a friend of mine who uses a separate microphone for an iPad in his work environment to monitor noise from the machinery. The problem he has found with microphones that plug into the headset connector is that they are subject to the inbuilt low frequency roll-off filters . Any microphone plugged into the headset connector suffers from the same problems. He now uses a microphone (more expensive) that plugs into the 30 pin connector which bypasses the filters.
