Would I be out of my mind to sell my XPA-5 and XPA-1's in order to grab an XPR-5 / 7 at the Boston Emo on the road? The hope is that I would be able to jump to a pair of XPR-1's down the road as well. I don't know that I am getting the benefit of a fully balanced / differential topology from the XPA-1's as it sits now seeing as my condo and subsequent listening space are tiny. I think one single amp to power the whole system sounds pretty dang nice, and in the future when I get a bigger house (saving for it) I could upgrade by adding a pair of the XPR-1 mono's. Does this seem worthwhile? What I sell the XPA stuff for would pay for the XPR plus a few hundred left over to put in savings. Opinions?

I have a XPR-5 and now also getting your pair of XPA-1's, so i think it's a fine idea! I love my XPR-5 and just want the pair of XPA-1's for the 2 channel listening! Plenty of power from the xpr and it sounds great! It also looks awesome as well! Pretty blue lights, lol!

Single Family House first so that you can fully use your system. In condo, you have to be aware of the neighbors when you play your system. Also, you will be able to determine if you even need the XPR amps in your new house. The XPA amps may work just fine in the new house.
That is what I would do.

If you want to convert audio gear to house savings, sell ALL your current stuff & buy an AVR. It'll be sufficient for your condo & you can upgrade again AFTER the house is bought and you know what gear you'll need.

wow, you Canadians ARE crazy! silly Canucks! My mother is a real estate agent and she can't get enough listings to keep the market full! Things look to be turning for the housing market.
As far as the savings go, I am less concerned about the money in my pocket and more so for space consideration and audio quality. I find that for me to get my bars to dance on my XPA-1's I need a considerable amount of noise produced. So much so that I dare not do it except mid day on my day off, and even at that I don't want to alert my neighbors to the kind of equipment I have in my living room and become a target for theft.
My real point here is two fold - Smaller space : The XPR-5 / 7 would serve to power my whole current system from 1 spot. I currently have an TV stand chock full of equipment. Might be nice to have 1 piece that will do it all with aplomb.
Audio quality : Previously the XPA-1's were the audio nirvana of us Emonatics,... now the XPR is. IF I were to sell the XPA stuff now and get the XPR it would be the base of my system with the future sightline being a pair of XPR-1's to go with it. At that point I would be a in a worse situation for space,... lol. But I hope to have a bigger house and more space for it!
As far as money goes, I invest in my equipment what I can afford and when I sell stuff the money goes right back in. In this case I would likely use the extra few $100 to buy some new vinyl for my soon to be picked up Rega P5. I could also save it for the XMC-1 which I pray is available for purchase at the Boston Emo on the Road!

Not that it matters much but don't forget the XPR-7 is still a "proof of concept" item at this stage. It could be (several) months before it sees the light of day..if they even decide to put it into production.
I know the XPA-1's are big but how much usable space would you actually save by giving them up? Would it be worth the hassle of selling your current gear and buying an XPR-5?
I say stick with what you have for the time being.

Chris, you already have more than enough "ampage" to drive those speakers to deafening levels. I side with the others who have advised that you put the XPRs on hold and concentrate on saving for your new home. The amps will always be available, and you may even find some gently used ones later on that will provide you with what you seek at a lower price.
As Frank Zappa famously noted: "Save your money, don't go to the show..."

I'm with the others, you've got plenty of amp(s) for your current space. Get a house with your new listening/HT room before making any changes, you may want new speakers by then and the XPR-7 might actually be out. There will be plenty of sales in the future too.

I would hold and save for the house. This has NOTHING to do with money. Instead...think of MOVING an XPR...get the house, then the XPR just so you don't have to lift it to move it from the condo to the house.
