Hi all, I finally had the Xpa5 at home to compare with my old power amplifier and check if I could substitute it to spare space in my living room.
My actual set up is: Teac Vrds20 cd player, Electrocompaniet EC3 pre and Electrocompaniet AW100 power, Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers, Kimber Kgag balanced interconnet Kimber Kt8 power cable.
The A/B test:
The package of the Emo ampli is well done and enoufh resistant to allow severall shippings.
The ampli himself is really heavy, I had an hard time to switch between them to many times to compare.
The sound is full, great reproduction of the low frequencies, seemed like if my bookshelf speakers had a new 20 inch driver, where I really missed something was on the high; I found laking of definition, few passages sounded completely different.
I know the Xpa5 is studied for HT use and that's what I'm going to use it for.
But for music I going to keep my old ampli.
I had a conversation with the tech department at Emotiva, and got the suggestion to try biamp the speakers with 4 of the 5 ch, that is a try I going t do next.
My opinion at the moment is that every country (or continent if you prefer) has its own sound tastes.
You in the U.S. likes the low to be really present, in EU i find to have a lover passion for bass and a tendency to definition, in Japan I think they look for accurate high freq, dont bother at all for the lower spectrum, van den hul build interconnect cable in silver sold almost only there.
this is my 2c.
As soon I'll be able to make the biampl test I'll let you know. Hugs and kisses Marco.
