I think the Emotiva separates will drive your ML speakers much better then the Yamaha rx-a-2010. if you can go with a umc-200 and a UPA-500 I think you'd get a better sound.
However, on the other hand I think the Yamaha is much easier to tweak then the UMC-200 and offers some extra bells and whistles.

I have the RX-A 3010 as a prepro for multichannel sources. Does a great job. External amps are a big plus for the main channels.
Don't see the UMC-200 as big upgrade. The XMC-1 might be.

I agree, I use my RX-V3900 as a pre pro and don't see a big bonus for the UMC-200. I'm not even sure you'll see a big bump using the UPA-500. Don't get me wrong I love my XPA-3 for the front stage, but 80wpc, even all channels driven, won't be a night and day difference. I'd go the for the big power upgrade up front and use the Yamaha for the back channels.
