Sorry this isn't my first post - my first was to complain the UMC-200 has buttons instead of a knob for volume ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png)
I purchased my first Emotiva products right at the beginning of the year. A UMC-200 and an XPA-5.
I made a little movie room a few years ago and equipped it on a budget. I started with a Harman Kardon AVR 745, Panasonic PT AX100 projector, A Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player, and some Bose speakers w/Klipsch subwoofer in a 7.1 setup. It was good at the time.
Everyone convinced my I needed to replace the Bose, so I got 7 Hsu HB1 Mk2s and a VTF3 Mk2 subwoofer. WOW, that made a difference. But the HB1s were too much speaker for my room so I went from a 7.1 to a 5.1 setup. It sounded very good but I had to really turn up the rear speakers (because nowhere did it say when running 5.1 hook up to the side speakers on the receiver, not the rear). I also got a Sony PS3 for the format winner - Blu-ray.
I had told myself that if a good 3D projector ever dropped below $2k, then I would get one. Last December I got a good deal on a Sharp HE XVZ17000 3D projector. That changed everything. Since my H/K didn't support 3D I used this as an opportunity to upgrade to separates. Because of the PS3 limitations I also purchased a Panasonic DMP BDT220 Blu-ray player (since replaced). When looking online for A/V equipment I was surprised at all the positive reviews considering the reasonable cost of the Emotiva products. I was so happy with my Hsu speakers that I figured another internet only company would be worth a shot.
So that's where I came from to where I ended up with my first Emotiva components. I am extremely happy with the sound they produce through my Hsu speakers. It was a little bit of a rough start with the UMC-200 and compatibility with my other equipment, but it has all worked out now. I would recommend this company to anyone.
