Here is the best $6 (originally $23) you will ever spend if you want to watch and hear a great documentary movie about Motown with the Funk Brothers in Dolby Digital/DTS on DVD (2 discs). There is even a section on one disc where after watching the movie with musical performances you can watch just the musical selections. Excellent surround sound. My wife and I just picked that up last week. Speaking of it, here's the opening to the documentary, capped off with this killer version of Reach Out I'll Be There with Gerald Levert: An while we're at it, here's their great version of Heatwave with Joan Osborne: Aw shucks...how 'bout some Funk Brothers and Bootsy Collins:

I can't remember if I've posted this previously in this thread, but if I have, it's worth posting again anyway . This is the original, superior, and virtually unknown version of this song:

Johnny Winter doing a cover of 'Hideaway' "Hide Away" or "Hideaway" is a blues guitar instrumental that has become "a standard for countless blues and rock musicians performing today". First recorded in 1960 by Freddie King, the song became an R&B and pop chart hit. Although "Hide Away" is credited to Freddie King and Sonny Thompson (pianist and A&R man at Federal Records) in an interview, Freddie King said that "Hide Away" came from a Hound Dog Taylor song called "Taylor's Boogie".

I'm in Japan with rots of time on my hands today. Thought I might post some very different style versions/covers of the same song from 1927 thru 2007. My Blue Heaven was written in 1924 and published in 1927 by George A. Whiting and Walter Donaldson. My uncle was a Big Band orchestra leader way back and I grew up with this genre of music. There are so many wonderful covers of this classic I could only include a few, covered at least 95 times in English let alone many other languages. Paul Whiteman and Orchestra - 1927 Fats Domino - 1957 Leon Redbone - 1981 Norah Jones - 2007 Hitomi Imaizumi - recently No Charge Bonus Extra --- Mona's Hot Four - more recently OK, I couldn't resist adding this marvelous cover by Denis Chang and Hsi-Chiao Liao
