Andrew,
Does the PT 7030 decode DSD via HDMI?

Andrew, Does the PT 7030 decode DSD vis HDMI? No idea as I no longer have any SACDs etc. I doubt it, but maybe Keith would know more on that front. DSD is a format a lot of audiophiles ask about, yet it was (largely) dead on arrival. I don't fault the 7030 if it doesn't have it but if it does, well, kudos. Sorry I can't be of more help on this one.

There are many new SACD releases every month which is great to see.

No audible differences between PCM and DSD when done at the player.

I only have a hand-full of SACD albums and over the years I have never noticed a difference between listening to PCM vs DSD. I have used Sony, Denon, Oppo, and Marantz players to compare the sound quality of PCM vs DSD of my SACD collection and I am unable to detect any difference between the two formats.

According to this website, www.sa-cd.net/ There are over 8500 SACD titles and many more each month. It may be a "dead" format for some but not to me and a few thousand other collectors. (I started my SACD collection in 2001 and if I wasn't so much into movies, I'd have collected a lot more than the 200+ I have).

Can anyone confirm that if you order the PT-7030 and receive the free PA7-150 amp do you also get the $500 in direct dollars for purchasing a Sherbourn item for $1500 or over...?, I am seriously thinking of placing my order before the direct dollar promotion is over and keeping my 40% upgrade card for the XMC-1 when it comes out.

BAM! Trigger pulled. They want me to mail in my 40% discount card. No problem. I'm not in that much of a hurry. Yeah right.

Chad Looks like I was a bit slow. See reply below. Still a good deal, but might wait around for that XMC-1. 'You can use the 40% discount towards the purchase of the PT-7030. If you do use it, you will not receive the free PA 7-150. The upgrade certificate cannot be combined with any other promotion. The Direct Dollars program unfortunately has expired and we are no longer offering that deal.'

Have there been any more reviews on the PT-7030?

Does anyone know if there is a newer software release than V1.0?? Is there any way to extend the range of the standard remote, or do you have to go with a 3rd party solution??

That said, I have had my 7030 for a little over a week but have not had a chance to fully test it because my center channel has been at Emo for repair and is due back this week. So far, however, I am pleased. The 7030 operates like it is supposed to, sound and picture are great, and it locks on to the audio codec pretty fast - faster than the UMC-1. So far, no problems. My only "cons" are: (1) display is dim and there is no way to adjust it; (2) on/off button is flimsy but then I use a remote so it doesn't matter, and (3) volume adjustments are in 1db instead of .5 db increments. Minor quibbles, although I do wish the display could be made brighter. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the center channel, I will be keeping it and have no regrets about getting this instead of waiting for the XMC-1. I'm selling my reservation spot in line for the XMC-1 for $5,000. If anyone is stupid enough to buy cables that cost that much, put it to better use and buy my slot in line.

Damn, there's a reservation? I paid a kid to stand in line in front of Emo headquarters ... Hey Keith can you take him a new Twinkie or something and tell him he can go home?

It might require an original Twinkie, not the new one as an adequate payoff. I wonder if those original ones are still worth anything from a collector's standpoint? They probably taste the same now as they did before or even one from 10 or 20 years old. They have no half-life.

A quick note for those connecting a OPPO to the 7030. I couldn't get SACD or DTS encoded movies to play, and could not find any settings in the 7030 to be configured. Found that in the OPPO setup, you must configure for AUTO for Audio out (Movie and SACD). Once you do, all CD/DVD/BluRay/SACD/FLAC movies/audios will be correctly selected by the 703 and played.
I thought I was going to have to connect the 7.1 out to the 7.1 in to get things to work properly, and while that is still an option, it is not a necessity.
So, the Anthem MRX-500 is now out of the equipment rack, and the 7030 is taking over all duties.
Next job is to get the XPA-1 amps hooked up and see how the Sherbourn Pre works with pure stereo.

Let us know how you feel about the differance in the sound between the Anthem or the 7030. I hav been looking at the Anthem 50v 3D but the price is a bit more then I want to pay, so it is between the 7030 , Anthem 500 or the future EMC-1
