I took delivery of Sherbourn's PT-7030 AV Preamp yesterday and thought it would be a good idea to give it its own thread here on the forum for those who might be interested. I'm going to be keeping a sort of journal here on the forum of my experience(s) with the 7030, good and bad, so I thought an OFFICIAL thread was the way to go. For those of you who may not be as familiar with the PT-7030, you can read about it on Sherbourn's website here. Needless to say the PT-7030 seems to pack a lot of features and performance into its stylish chassis for not a lot of money -$1,619 to be exact. I'll be writing up a full review of the PT-7030 soon enough, as well as posting product and educational videos about the AV preamp. But in the meantime here are a few arrival pictures and unboxing images. For an affordable AV preamp, it ships more securely and with a bit more "panache" than any AV preamp I've seen in and around its price range. Truthfully, the unboxing experience was akin to my old Meridian G-Series, in that both were brilliantly cocooned in foam while also wrapped in a black fabric bag -a nice touch. My PT-7030 (hopefully) will be replacing my reference AV preamp of several years, Integra's fabulous DHC 80.2. Big shoes to fill, especially considering the PT-7030 lacks some of the Integra's feature sets. That being said, at half the price I'm willing to forgive things like IP based control etc. Also, if the PT-7030 sounds better (not making a judgement call just yet) than that is all that matters. Eitherway, if you're at all curious about the PT-7030 AV Preamp from Sherbourn, keep it tuned here for updates! Attachments:

Example of the Sherbourn branded bag I spoke about above. Also, like all Sherbourn products, the PT-7030 ships with all the necessary rack mounting equipment, which for me is a HUGE selling point as I rack mount all my gear. The only other company that I've seen that offers rack mounting ears as standard is Parasound, and only with their costlier Halo line of products. Everyone else it is an optional extra -often times, a lot extra. Attachments:

Very Nice I have been enjoying my Sherbourn SR-8100 for over a month now, and what a powerful and beautiful machine it is. I will be following the thread as I am interested in upgrading later.

Glad to see you here at Emotiva, Andrew. I have enjoyed your past reviews of various components over the years and I look forward to your upcoming review of the PT-7030.

Wait a second, I'm confused. I'd never even heard of Sherbourn until today, and they're a "sister company" of emotiva? What's the difference between the two product lines? Has this been covered somewhere else and I just missed it?
This 7030 must be based off of some existing processor then. Does anyone know what that is? Thanks.

There was an announcement elsewhere in the forum and there have been a number of different explanations of the differences. Basically Sherbourn is/was targeted at custom installers and have some features that are aimed more in that direction.
I don't know that "the 7030 MUST be based off of some existing processor"... but it is highly likely that it was or at least parts of it were fairly similar as I would guess that many of the same engineers worked on both. But that is just guessing.

Sherbourn is a sister company run under the same blanket umbrella of Jade designs. The other company is Emotivapro. Sherbourn has longer warranties as well as the other stuff mentioned. They are also a little more expensive. They used to be a lot more until they recently went internet direct. They have a few gear that emotiva didn't have or was in development at the time but didn't make it. For instance the XPR-7!! www.sherbourn.com/collections/theater/products/pa7350The XMC-1 (but isn't really the XMC-1 as it uses different chips). www.sherbourn.com/products/pt7030An XPA-2 but with 80,000 mFarads capacitance, 29db gain www.sherbourn.com/products/pa2250The XPA-7!! www.sherbourn.com/products/pa7150And an AVR with a great amp section www.sherbourn.com/products/sr8100

The really nice part about the Sherbourn amps is the warranty, 10 years vs. 5 years for Emo. However, they do cost more than a comparable Emo amp, so you are basically buying a 10 year warranty with the extra dough...

PS: And that Sherbourn 350 watts/ch, 7-channel amp is a BEAST - 99 lbs. out of the box. Better put on yer big-boy pants for this one...

It even comes up as Rotel if you connect to the Bluetooth. It is also reported that people are using the Rotel manual, as it is a little more informative than the Sherbourn one Who made the amp, I do not know though...

A quick image of the PT-7030 and PA 7-350 installed in my reference rack. Note: I haven't yet installed the 7030 using the included rack ears because I plan on removing it in the next day or so for a video shoot. Once the shoot has been completed I'll install the rack ears for a more professional look! Attachments:

Hi Andrew, do you perhaps have a picture of the PT-7030 remote? Would be really cool to see it.
Thanx, Wayne South Africa

Do people designing these remotes really not think that adjusting volume is important? These buttons couldn't be more buried.
