So you could end up getting the XMC for 825, if the 25% and direct bucks can be combined.

I had sent the question (use 40% off card) about getting the Direct Dollars and got a clear YES (via e-mail) you get the Direct Bucks, but the amount of direct bucks depends on the actual price paid. So if you use the 40% off you pay $1080 and qualify for (only!!!) the $300 Direct Dollars. This is fair since you won't be double dipping on discounts. So when are you getting yours?

Andrew,
Reviews of the Rotel RSP-1572 have stated that on HDMI sources only, that the first "half second" of audio is muted at the beginning of tracts. I haven't been able to find any mention of that behavior in any of the Sherbourn PT-7030 reviews. What has your experience been?

I haven't been able to find any mention of that behavior in any of the Sherbourn PT-7030 reviews. What has your experience been? I have experienced this too, however, not with ALL sources. Not sure why that is, but never the less, my Dune-HD Max has a few second lag whereas my Pioneer Blu-ray player does not. Go figure.

Just to clarify, the issue is not for movies, but for music. Try various CDs (or rips thereof). Is the entire first note presented in its entirety? Does it start smoothly or is there an abruptness? (Not a click, but if the audio is gated late, it can snap into being.)
The difference between yes and no is not a matter of a few seconds, but way less than a half second. A few tenths of a second is the granularity at play.
Also you may find that the sound may play smoothly from one cut to the next, but not when stepped through via chapter advance.

I should also note that it is only via HDMI. Optical or analog connections from a source component (in my case Dune-HD Max or Pioneer Blu-ray player) do not seem to exhibit any "lag".

I had an old Rotel Prepro that exhibited that behavior. I finally figured out that if the track time on the CD was encoded to start at less than zero, the prepro would cut out. In other words if a song ended and the track counter reset to zero before the next song started, everything worked fine. If the track counter started at -1 seconds, for instance, the audio would cut at the beginning of the second track. Never solved it. Had to use the DAC in the CD player instead of passing PCM to the Rotel.

Damm, I wonder how the 40% deal would work with that? Excellent question. I have to believe it's real simple...it doesn't. If someone finds out otherwise, I'm in!

I agree, if you wanted to use the 40% card I'd expect you'd then have to buy the amp which is summer sale priced at $1049. So still better off with the free amp deal, but that's just my take. Very tempting ...

Exactly the description that plagued the cary 11a [cs 49700 too] a few milliseconds audio delay before locking on to the signal .A necessary evil to stop various pops and squelches It does tend to polarise feelings if its bothersome or not - understandably so

I called Emo and asked for the particulars on the 7030 deal. As you were probably thinking, you can't use the upgrade card AND get the free amp. But through the 13th you can still get the $300 credit on a future purchase that had been previously posted as the offer on the Sherbourn site. I guess we're all going to be doing some math to figure out the effect of alternate courses of action.
