I have the TX-NR818 got it back in November of last year and I can say that it doesn't get hot or even "warm to hot" being used as a Pre-Amp.Onkyo did away with the high heat thing the older units use to have.If you read up on the TX-NR line on them units they tell you about that. Now I wouldn't put a 75 lbs amp on top of my AVR but that's me.One more thing my TX-NR818 has been bug free from the jump even my 24fp works great.Nice set up you have there Vinylfreak.

Thanks for the comments. I had a Onkyo 608 prior to my current setup and it never got warm. None of my gear is in a enclosed cabinet , so that probably helps. I currently have the Onkyo on top of the Sherbourn. So far I haven't felt noticeable heat off of the Sherbourn and a little off of the Onkyo when I push it. All the heat generated from the Onkyo is exhausted out the top.

I use two small fans, one on the XPA5 and one on my Sony ES5300, they remain cool after being on all day. Cheap and easy solution
