The only thing I've noticed on CD players is that the longer you play them, the more forgiving the laser is of surface defects. It seems to penetrate them better. Perhaps it's part of the burn in process. (Just kidding!)

So far I'm enjoying the ERC-3. It has a little wider soundstage, and depth to the sound in the mid range. The highs are smooth, mid range clarity, and tighter low end. It is not a big difference over the Sherbourn CD-1. The ERC-3 is a little more refined in the depth, and clarity of the music's nuances. I still like the slot loader better than the tray loader. The button to open and close the tray doesn't work all the time. There has been a few times I had to hit it twice. The remote works great so no issues there. The improvement is small but it does enhance upon the great sound to bring it out a little more into focus. I have two more weeks to decide on my final verdict to keep it or send it back. Thank YOU! 'The Button to open the tray doesn't work all the time'!! But with the ERC3 I got most of the front buttons had this issue and it drove me to send it back. Ergonomic things like this should NOT happen on a piece of gear like the ERC3. I'm just glad that I wasn't the only one dealing with this issue. Soundwise though, a beautiful machine!! Mickboy

I've read a few of these "the buttons don't work" reports recently so I had a play with the buttons on my ERC-3. As I have reported previously they need a manly push. not a wishy washy girly brush of the pinky. It was possible, by pushing very gently to feel (not hear) a faint click early in the button's movement, about 1/3rd of the travel, but the button is not fully pushed home. So it is possible to think that the button has been pushed but it actually hasn't. Despite quite a lot of attempts I couldn't get mine to fail to respond to a proper button push. My best suggestion would be, if you are having no response issues to make sure that you push the button home, give it a manly push, don't be woose.
Cheers Gary

I've had my ERC-3 since mid December. Yes, sometimes if you don't push the button fully, it will not work. Like it has been said on here, you need to give the buttons a "manly" push. I am of the opinion, and we all know what that means, that I would rather have a "solid" button than flimsy one. Just seems to me that it will hold up better over the long run. As to the sound of the player.......AMAZING!!!!

As punishment I won't push any buttons on my ERC-3 all day today, harsh I know but commit the crime do the time. Cheers Gary
