I need to decide between the UMC-200/UPA-500 combo (I only have 5 speakers) or save about $200 and get the Sherbourn SR-8100 receiver. Both options are 80 watts/channel and it appears the features should be about the same. I realize the separates give me flexibility in the future, but if the consensus is the sound between the two options should be pretty much a wash, I'll probably save the money and get the receiver. I listen to music 50% of the time TV and movies the other 50%.
thanks!

Go separates. You will not regret it.

I would normally agree with the others that separates are the way to go, but the 8100 right now at $599 is a pretty good deal (save about $360). I just ordered one for a client's system and expect it will perform pretty well.

Oh wow that is cheap didn't realize the sale there as well, it would be nice if it had RCA preouts for future expandability though.

Is the "Sherbourn automatic multi-channel room correction" in the SR-8100 the same as the Emotiva "Advanced Emo-Q Gen2™ automatic multi-channel room correction?" If it isn't I guess the question is how big of an improvement is the Emo-Q Gen2. Any other features in the UMC-200 over the SR-8100?
thanks!

I vote for the receiver, and I *rarely* do so. But in this case you are giving up very little (if anything), and you are saving some serious bucks. Go with the Sherbourn...

I had the same debate with myself and went with the Sherbourn. The nice thing about not having preouts is that you don't spend the rest of your life thinking about adding amplifiers to your system. I have no complaints about the power from the 8100. I use the last two channels to bi amp my front speakers (not that I can hear a difference).
