Thinking about possably grabing a new XDA-2 to go along with my new Oppo 103 coming and have a question on how I would go about hooking it up to my system..
Would it be possible to connect the XDA-2 from the balanced outs to my XPA-2's balanced inputs while also having the unbalanced connection used from my receiver?
Would that work or cause some problem?
Should I just connect the XDA-2 to the receiver?
Should I even be looking at the XDA-2 just to stream music from a PC with the oppo 103 coming?

You can do as you say but you would also have to change the bal/unbal switch position on the back of the amp every time you wanted to change from the XDA to the receiver. But I don't think those switches are really meant for heavy use so I wouldn't recommend it.

I say plug the XDA-2 into the receiver, you "might" get better sound if you plug it directly into the amp but you'll get over that quickly having to flip the little switches on the back of the XPA-2 (one for each channel) then having to flip them back when you want to use a different source.

It would work but I beleive Lonnie one time mentioned the XPA-2 switches were not meant to be input switchers so not meant for long term use. You could get a cheap a/b switcher. As for which DAC to use (oppo103) or XDA-2. I would just get the Oppo 95 or `105 and call it a day.

Right! Forgot about those switches. Gona have to go threw the receiver for now.
I guess theres another reason to be looking at a USP-1 or XSP-1.

Kept reading that there wasn't enough reason to grab the 105 over the 103 that made it tuff. Plus the wife flipped her lid when I told her about it. Just showed her a receipt last night from crutchfield 10 years ago that I paid $1799 for a Denon 5900 DVD/SACD player but there was no comment from her of course. I do remember reading that the Oppo 103 was limited on its USB connection and one could just grab a XDA-2 to fill that void and thought I could grab one later on. Want something to top off my tower of Emotiva Amps! haha.. I need a tower topper to finish the look with the sexy XPA-2 and XPA-3 stack. .

I had thought about suggesting going the Oppo 105 route vs 105 + XDA-2 - one les item to clutter the rack but would the cost really be worth it considering the current sale?
$499 for the 103 + $339 for the currently on-sale XDA-2 = $838 A 105 would be $1,199. Save the $361 - put it towards future upgrades or new source material or better yet - spend it on your wife! Trust me, it helps from time to time.

$360 can get you a nice UPA-200 to get you to 7.1 Naw.. i'd go a pair of XPA-1s when and if 7.1 ever happends again for me. To get there for me would cost a ton as a pair of Polk Audio LSiM 707s for new mains would run me $4K retail or $1699 ea at polkdirect (polks ebay store).. then I would take the 705s and make them front wides. $6k total.. prob aint gona happen anytime soon! Cheaper would be to grab a set of the LSIM 702s for surround sides for $1500 or ($1349 at polkdirect). UPA-200 is looking good now haha..

She should just let me snag that XDA-2 since the 103 was for Fathersday and she only was willing to put in $100 for it and I just need $100 more to pay it off our savings I used. Whats another $340 for awesome sound?
