I disagree about the market for a 15" sub being niche.
Most of the products made by sub manufacturers are not small cube subs.
In the world of subs, a 15" driver isn't that big anyway.
Most people who are investing in subs want high performance (volume and low freq), so the market for those who are just looking for a small compact sub to augment their system is smaller.
