Thanks to glowing reviews and the current sale, I ordered and just received a pair of XPR-1s. I have not even moved them into my home theater room or unboxed them yet, as I am waiting for some new cables. The feature that sealed the deal for me was the XPR-1's switched inputs, RCA single ended and XLR balanced. My goal is to raise the stereo performance of my 7 channel surround system by adding a separate two channel system integrated into the surround system. I have a Marantz AV7005 prepro and a Pass Labs X 1 preamp, both of which I will connect to the respective XLR and RCA inputs on each XPR-1 amp. The Pass Labs prepro lacks an on/off switch, which is by design. In his Audioholics review, Gene cautions against leaving two input sources connected. Yet I emailed Emotiva and was told that it is fine to do this. Have any XPR-1 owners connected two preamps and left them powered?

I have not tried it. You can only use one input or the other as it is switchable so I can't imagine a problem... Whether it raises the performance or not is highly subjective I guess. That Marantz prepro sounds great, but it sounds like an interesting experiment. When the RMC-1 comes out you can get rid of both

Could you plug the Pass Labs into a switched outlet so that when you are not using it you have the ability to turn it off? I realize that this goes against the unit not having a power switch, but would be a nice safety net and keep you from possibly frying your gear.
