Like:
When will they be available?
Do they go any lower than the old ones?
Sizes & prices?
When we can get on the pre-order list?
Thanks - Boomzilla

Thanks - Boomzilla Glenn, The only other thing I remember Dan saying was that this was a family of subs. The undertone was that this is coming soon. Dates/Prices/Pre-Order = no. And, I didn't ask. I think we've all learned that when it comes it comes is the new Emotiva policy. The answer I did get was from my question if Carver was doing new sub - not completely sure if he's involved or not. Jmilton heard the same reply, perhaps he picked up something I didn't?

Dan did make one other statement that I don't know know quite how to put in context: "Bob likes small."

There was a sub in the theater demo room that I did not recognize. I asked Dan, "is that one of your (Emotiva's) subs?" His response was merely, "it's a prototype."
It was a front firing sub, it looked to me like it was a 10", but it was probably a 12". The woofer looked beefy.....very heavy duty surround. The cabinet was rather small, and perfectly square. I didn't see a port, there may have been one on the back, but i suspect it may have been a sealed enclosure.

During the Q & A session at last year's EmoFest Big Dan said that the new Emo subs were tentatively expected during 3rd Qtr of 2013. Among them, a 15" sub was discussed and it was to have an external amp/DSP that would be similar to those discussed for the ERS series of subs a few years ago -- having Lonnie's highly intelligent DSP controls, along the lines of the ERS-112 and ERS-212. He also said they would be offering the amp/DSP for sale separately. I don't know if Bob Carver coming on board will impact the release of those planned subs. I hope not.
The new Reference Series speakers were also mentioned for release in the same time frame. These new speakers were discussed as replacing the soft dome tweeter with the folded-ribbon transducers. The new speaker line was also mentioned as having a choice of furniture grade enclosures and targeted at high-end speaker competitors. I can hardly wait to audition these new speakers.

That small prototype sub was great...I actually took a few pics Thanks, I suspected that with Bob Carver's influence, they'd be going small-box/big-excursion. I'm not a fan of the style due to its high intermodulation distortion and its (historical) inability to play high enough in the frequency spectrum to blend with smaller satellite speakers. Nevertheless, it is what it is. My $$ may end up going elsewhere.

Very compact looking.. thanks for the pics! Looks like there is no balanced input?

As I stated Big Dan had that box laying around, so more than likely it won't look much like that. So the amp plate could have been something just hanging around too.

The 12" protype was great. It's very compact and the room it was filling in was huge; it held its own and sounded fabulous. Dan mentioned it will likely be part of the X-Ref family and land in the $800-$900 range, but no guarantees.

Ugh I hope this is not the direction Emotiva takes on subs. They are great for tiny rooms but any serious theater room will benefit from a bigger box.

The pictured sub looks a lot like one of Bob's Sunfire TrueSubs - small form factor, huge, beefy surrounds, extreme excursion, big mo-fo amps. And they are fine for most normal home theater setups, very few have a 1,000 sq. ft. home theater room, most folks soldier on with a 300 sq. ft. room...

Familiar? If the Q&A turns out to be correct with a 15" using an external amp I would be very interested, but have a feeling we will see this tiny overpriced subs using under powered plate amps.

Note, I doubt emo will have and underpowered plate amp. They are seldom faulted for being underpowered.
