You can see my speakers in my signature. I just picked up a new Sr-120 on eBay for $450 because my parents asked me to get them a surround system. They like my SR-8100, so I can keep either one, so cost and convenience of shipping/selling is not a factor. Which one would you, esteemed audiophiles, keep, and why.
Keep in mind that I don't have any interest in 3D TV.
Thanks,
Siggie

The SR-120 has a UMC-1 front end, pre outs and more power. The SR-8100 has a UMC-200 front end, less power and only pre outs for zone 2. The 8100 is smaller and might be ideal for your folks. They both sound great. I have SR-120 and its a great piece, although it will not pass 3D thu it's architecture. I don't send my video signal though my AV piece anyway, it goes straight from my Oppo to my display so that means little to me. The SR-120 was $2900.00 new.. it's 125w x 3 and 75w x 4 @ 8ohms. The SR-8100 is 80 X 7 I believe.....

SR-120 over 8100 for the pre-outs for me. Would be my recommendation just in case you want an amp later.

Thanks for the input. Is the firmware on the sr-120 solid now? I definitely don't want to subject my parents to software issues. I'm actually more drawn to the 7 channel analog inputs, on the 120 so I can keep using the amp if I get a new processor down the road.

Thanks, Siggie It is possible but I'm not sure why you would do that? It has a UMC-1 as a preamp which is very good. The amp section is great, but not a lot of power. If anything I would use the front end with an external power amp.. You might as well just use it as a receiver.....

Porscheguy,
I'm thinking maybe some new processing technology will come along or the processor will die before the amp section. You're probably right though, and I would definitely be using it as a complete receiver for a while.
