Hi all, hope you are doing well. I have been trying to get as many technical specs as I can on the amp section of this receiver, but the info is incomplete so far as i have found. Maybe I'm not searching at the right places. I have heard that the amp section is like the UPA-700. Is that true? I would like to know the size of the power supply___VA. The storage capacitance________uF. The SN ratios. I would like to find out what these are to help me make a buying decision on the SR-8100. Also does anyone know when the $ 599.00 sale price is going until? The pre-amp section is to my liking already, but the amp in this receiver needs to be adequate to drive my future Magnepan CC5 center and my Magnepan MMGW surrounds, all into 4 Ohms of course. My UPA-200 is doing a pretty good job with my Maggie MG-12 QRs so far, until I upgrade to a XPA-2 later on. Hope you can answer my questions. Thanks in advance. Have a good one yawl. Andre

Isn't the amp section the same as the upa-700? That makes the most logical sense considering the form factor and available product lines. No magic here. now as far as driving speakers like the maggies... Do yourself a favor and go with separates and the best amp you can afford. UMC-200 and XPA-5 is a good match here.

If it is comparable to a UPA-700, it would be enough to drive my center and surrounds, while saving me a boatload of money$$$

The UPA-200 is rated at 125 wpc. I own the SR-8100, it is rated at 80 wpc (all channels driven). I don't know the specs on the amp section beyond that. The SR-8100 has no pre outs though.
It drives with much ease, my 7.1 system which includes 2 Polk rti a7's and one Polk csi a6 and 2 front highs and 2 surrounds in ceiling speakers & 2 subs. It is very powerful and I can not go above 50 on the volume dial as it gets real loud. I think it will drive your maggies very easily. BTW I own a upa-700, in a different setting, and I found no difference between the 2.

Andre Most people that buy a $600.00 receiver don't usually ask those questions. Its only 80w a channel so not a lot of stones in the power amp section. I did hear it in Boston and it was plenty loud and sounded great. Kinda like asking what a Chevy Caprice would do on a skid pad

The Sherbourn will leave you wanting more IMHO--I have an equivalent Yamaha Aventage and it struggled trying to push an MMGC--no pre outs--what's up with that?

You're probably right about the will be wanting more bit. I will save up for longer and go with my original idea. Just go with a XPA-3 for the front 3, and use my UPA-200 for the rears, with a UMC-200. I wont be compromizing my own judgement or my music and movies.

I probably should have replied before. I'm currently running the sr-8100 with two mmg-w's and an mmg-c. I have two more mmg-w's for surrounds, but I haven't got them hooked up yet. Also in a box that's heading back to emotiva is a UPA-700. I can say that the amp section of the sr-8100 is very close to the upa-700 although I found that the sr-8100 lacked just a tiny tiny bit of bass. But it does have the power needed. At the current price, I think it's a no brainier. For just a few $$ more than the upa-700 you get a built-in umc-200. As a note the sr-8100 has 7.1 inputs but no pre-outs. So you can essentially use it as just an amp but not as a processor with a different amp.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with 8100. I would definitely do it all over again given the opportunity.
