Getting ready to purchase a pair of Bowers & Wilkins 803D or 804D speakers. Anyone using a pair of XPA-1's with these. Trying to get some more user opinions on this combo. thanks!

Hey,
I know it's not the same setup, but I run my Nautilus 805 loudspeakers with an XPA-5. Emotiva amps compliment B&Ws very well and I am very happy.
At the Emotiva on the Road show in Boston, Big Dan had his new pair of B&W 804 Diamonds on display. We listened to them being driven by several amps - XPA-1L, XPR-1, and Carver Black Beauty 305s. I have to say that they all made them sing. I was partial to the XPA-1L amps myself.
Just my $.02,
C

We run 804 Diamonds in the Emotiva office on XPA-1s and the pairing is brilliant! Zero hesitation in recommending this combo.

I currently own a pair of XPA-1s and could not recommend them to you more highly...!!! Emotiva designs all of their amps to be sonically "neutral", adding no signature of their own. Your speakers should sound exactly as they were designed to sound (pending the neutrality of other components in the chain). What the XPA-1 will offer you is an abundance of sheer power for unrestrained dynamics along with a decent amount of pure "Class A" power for lower volume listening. The XPA-1L will give you three times the amount of Class A power, however, it only offers half of the total output power. Neither should "sound" any different from each other when driven in (or into) Class A/B mode. At their current "Summer Sale" price, they're simply the most "powerful" bargain out there.....

I use to own a pair B&W 802N's with the XPA-1 and WOOAZAA, beautiful combo...I would say meaty down right below, and crystal highs..No doubt an awesome combo..Go for it.

I was using my xpa-1's to power a pair of 804 diamonds. They sounded great! Now I am using my xpa-1's to power my 802 diamonds and they are truly amazing. I just did a comparison with an audiophile friend of my system with the emo's and then a 7k 2 channel 300watt amp... To both our surprise/delight the emo's were the hands down winner, they just drew you into we'll recorded live performances and were so much faster than the comparator 2 channel. My system consists of a Classe cp-800, Oppo bdp-95, Dennon 4311, Mac Book Pro running alac files, Purist Audio and Audioquest interconnects. For the comparison only the amplification was changed.

I honestly can't think of a speaker that wouldn't do well with XPA-1s.

Many B&W speakers are a 'bad' load in the sense of being very reactive. IOW, these speakers can look a LOT like a capacitor OR inductor to an amp. All amps do not respond equally to such loads. I suspect that the EMO amps do pretty well into such loads and at the higher powers still be able to drive speakers like the B&W. I'd love to see some measured data of various amps driving +-45 degree loads at 8, 4 and 2 ohms. The pretenders will fall out and not be able to sustain power into such loadings.

My XPA-1's gen 1's are driving a pair of B&W 804d's and a B&W HTM3S. The diamond combo very dynamic with excellent attack, a powerful bass, plays through the transitions superbly, it's very even across the entire musical spectrum, and possesses crystal clear clarity in the midrange frequencies.
The synergy is outstanding. I think you will love this combo.
