I received my SR8100 last week and set out last night to reinstall everything. I have a Behringer amp running four 18" subs in an infinite baffle array. Previous setup was a UMC-1/UPA-500 combo for proc and 5x setup. The balanced cables are from Blue Jeans Cable...a y-cable for the Behringer input and a new single balanced cable to go from the SR8100 to the Velodyne SMS-1 (then the Y-cable out from there into the stereo balanced ins on the Behringer).
When working in the Sherbourne menu, I was getting massive ground thumps.....enough to shake the house (with 4 18's...LOL). All gear is running through a Mid-Atlantic rack-mounted conditioner/power strip. Knowing that the UMC-1/y-cable/Behringer combo had no issues previously, I quickly bypassed the SMS-1 and the ground thump is gone. So...that narrows it down....cable or proc. Any thoughts on how to fix the issue? I don't have a spare cable to swap to isolate the issue to either the cable or proc. Every other connection in the system is through HDMI (no RCA's) except the RF input on the FiOS box (which uses HDMI out to the SR8100).

Is the EQ on the receiver sufficiently capable that I can ditch the SMS-1? Might fix my issue altogether. Guess I'll set up the mic tonight....didn't have the heart to run the sweep at midnight when I finished up the install. LOL

It just may well be. You got a way to measure to verify? (laptop with rew for example)

LOL As someone who once owned the SMS-1, I believe the UMC-200 is able to replace the role of the SMS-1. The UMC-200 has a PEQ albeit with less bands, the only drawback is it is not able to be manually calibrated unless you use REW, Omnimic or similar program where as the SMS-1 has this built in. Alternatively you could use EmoQ for auto correction. Dave.

I've got several mics; the one from the SMS-1, the one from the SR8100, a similar one from a Yamaha receiver and one from a JL Audio Fathom. I can certainly bring laptop down there. Will any of those works? Obviously, the XLR connector presents a challenge whereas the Yamaha uses a mini jack.

how long should the Auto-EQ take? I tried twice and never got past the "ambient noise" phase....15-20min each time.

I think you can use the remote to cut the ambient noise check short and then to move to the next phase after the last one is completed--this speeds up the process some. In the software version I had, if you used the last two channels to bi amp the main speakers, the auto-eq would freeze. I'm ot sure if there has been an update for that issue yet. I gave my 8100 to my folks, and their room isn't ready to set it up yet. Siggie

I tried a few things with the remote and nothing advanced me, only exited (or no effect at all).

Do you think that's the issue? I have a second SR8100 inbound today...I was planning not to open it (yet), in case my Yamaha actually gets fixed (for my other system).

First time I ran EQ (sherwood SR-8100 too), it hung on the ambient noise. restarted and it worked perfectly passing that phase in seconds. I have a big Crown K2/Tumult sub and get zero hum with balanced. I'm just using a monoprice cable. had a neutrik before (longer cable) and also no hum.

the hum is an interaction between the Sherbourn, SMS1 and Behringer amp. Removing the SMS from the loop and it works great, save the AutoEQ setup issue. If I can get the EQ to smooth out the bass response, there's no need for the SMS-1 in the system.

Are you able to get the parametric eq values implemented by the SMS1? Would seem you could get the settings, and manually enter them on the sherwood if it doesn't do the bass end satisfactorily.
