OK, so i have to admit I had never even heard of Sherbourn till a few days ago, and still feel a little in the dark. I need a new receiver....i know, seperates are the way to go....dont have the $$ for it!!!! SO i found the SR-120, and its a price I can afford. Is it worth it? My setup...Magnapan MMG x 2, MMG-W x 2 and MMG-C x 1, SVS sub. Was using a NAd 773, it went poof, can afford that type of eqiopment again. The specs on the SR-120 look good, not sure about the unequal power. I need zone 2 for speakers in billiards area, seems covered, need 2 sub out - guessing i can simply split output. I was going to get the Denon 2312 or 3312 refurb, close to same price. I dont like the lack of .2, and would like 2 hdmi outs, but i am guessing i can live without. Also, from what i read the 3d thing isnt a problem if i run HDMI direct to projector, and just run sound through receiver....is that right? ok, i realize that if i am going to pull the trigger i dont have much time...talk me into, or out of this receiver. Thanks.

Thanks. I got an SR-120 about a month ago. One of my favorite features is that it has 7.1 preouts and 7.1 line-ins, so, eventually, you can use it as a preamp for a separate amp, or as an amp for a separate processor. The different outputs for the various channels seems odd, but I have no complaints about how it sounds. Emotiva sells an RCA splitter for two subs, but I haven't tried it. I know that the auto room correction software is not set up for two subs, so you would have to do some tweaking. I went through Yamaha and Pioneer receivers from Costco before settling on Sherbourn. Even the Pioneer, with an MSRP of $1,500, felt like a hunk of plastic and tin compared to the SR-120. The Sherbourn's remote is awesome (aesthetically, at least)--a big hunk of milled aluminum. And don't forget the five year warranty. Siggie

No one else has input?? I have to be honest, it seems that no one knows much/has experience with this reciever...its making it hard to pull the trigger. I like the warrenty, the power seems good...just not sure why theie are crickets in response to questions....seems no one else is interested. Is the price TO good??? Trying to talk myself into this receiver!!! TIA

I don't think at this price, you can go wrong. The warranty is great and the support of the Emotiva team is legendary. It sure does not have the bells and whistles and the 3 D feature (which is comatose and on hospice now)you may see on other receivers, like Yamaha or Pioneer or Marantz etc.,..
However it has a strong Amp section, true to its specs, and outputs and inputs which makes it very versatile. I ordered one, since I already own the SR-8100 and I find its sound and picture amazing. In all reality, there is no comparison to other brands with all their inflated ratings and poor performance and shady warranty.
So if you are on the fence, I suggest to go ahead and pull the trigger, you'll have to spend way more then 459 dollars and get similar specs on any other receiver.

So, let me understand the question; you're asking if a MSRP $1,999 receiver will compete with the sound quality of a $400 receiver at your local store? Or, how will it compete with the bells and whistles?
If it's a bells and whistles issue, then just perusing the spec sheet will help with that answer and not much needs to be said from those who own either this or the comparable Emotiva pre/pro (not receiver).
If you're asking about how the pre-amp/processor stage sounds, again, look at the comparable Emotiva pre/pro reviews; both on the Lounge and in trade magazines. Most reviewers (professional and owners) will say that the sound quality of the Emotiva equivalent is much better than other gear in it's price range (read: on par with gear priced at $2,000, like the Sherbourn).
If you're asking about the amplification that is onboard with the Sherbourn receiver, then I will guarantee you that you will get more power out of this set up than a comparable receiver listing similar specs. It will also likely sound better. Most $400 AVRs get their power ratings with only 1 or 2 channels driven. You will enjoy the extra power and headroom. Don't worry about the dissimilar power to the rear channels as there's not that much information, compared to the LRC channels, and therefore will not need the constant power rating that the LCR channels would need.
At the price that Emotiva/Sherbourn is offering this at, you really can't go wrong.

Compared to what you are thinking about in quality the sherbourn will be better. But what are you using for amplification? Those maggies need power. Sherbourn and emotiva were never really much about features but more abut sound quality and in that regard they tend to deliver. If you don't have quality amplification the SR 8100 reciever is better than a comparatively priced reciever. BUT it's still not going to be enough for that last bit of power and I don't think it has multichannel pre-amplifier outputs to help you out there. But for any other kind of speaker IMO it's a darn good deal.
Here's something I can tell you with experience with emotiva. 1. Every single extra dollar spent is wort it. Like really really worth it. 2. Their lowest end stuff is incredible. So good that it makes you kick yourself that you didn't wait longer and save more. 3. The prices on used gear at the forums is even better as emotiva amps have transferrable 5 year warranties. 4. When emotiva says their gear (amps) is all channels driven rated and that's better than comparable recievers. They are really not kidding at all. Their amps deliver, they don't wimp out and they can really control your speakers.

I have a SR-120 and it performs great. Sherbourn, like Emotiva focuses on SQ, not bells and whistles. It will decode all the latest sound codecs and the power section is more than adequate. Hey it weighs 80lbs not like some BB $600.00 reciever. It sold for $3000 when new. It's built like a tank. I just use the front end, but I ran it as a receiver for a few weeks and its has pretty good power. A steal for $600. That is below manufacturing cost...... audiostore.com.ua/data/files/sherbourn_SR-120.pdfIt's the same price as a UMC-200 and has a power section if you need it as well.

Non taken....simple math....me plus wife = maggies and NAD....add 1 child...then add 2 at once=need closeout prices to get decent stuff. Also, if you think Maggies are expensive you should see my dream theater list . I didnt mean to come across as winey [sp], just being honest. It was a great deal, I just had little knowledge on Sherbourn. I am familier with Emotiva, thats why i was on the site, and saw the merger announcement and deals. I got the answers i wanted, everyone was a great help. I will wait for another sale, and keep saving, and somehting will come up. I have not been frequenting the boards here in the past, I will now. I see some great deals here to. I will join the Emotiva/Sherbourn family eventually. Great post by everyone, thanks.

The SR-120 I ordered at this silly, crazy, ridiculous low price, will not ship till 9/7/13 per Sherbourn email to me. Also the PRE-1 won't ship till early September. I still can not believe the prices !!!!! I am sure it is below cost.

It is a no brainer at $459 no tax free shipping. I have one but I got a PA 7-350 on their sale and 180lbs of Sherbourn wont be nice to my shelf. So I had to buy the PT-7020A even though its exactly a SR-120 with no amp. Unfortunately there will be a SR-120 for sale soon.
