I cut this clip from the new Star Trek movie which was released on iTunes today. Scene is from Jim's apartment. It looks like he has some serious tube and analog gear.

He was a fan of old Corvettes as well. I bet he'd rather roll tubes than old 'Vettes!

He was a fan of old Corvettes as well. Yes, a '65 ragtop. I owned a '66 in the late 70's. I loved that car. Actually, in the story line was it was his father's Corvette. A young James T. Kirk steals it for a joyride and totals it. ...

I cried when I watched that scene. I have a tendency to skip over that scene. Sniff, sniff.

Speaking of tubes! Did you get to listen to the carver 305's while at the Boston show, If so what did you think?

Chuck, Speaking of tubes! Did you get to listen to the carver 305's while at the Boston show, If so what did you think? Although I saw them and listened a bit, I didn't spent too much time doing so. I find shows a difficult location to do critical listening. My major purpose there was to order my 1Ls, having sidelined my tube interest for the time being. A future DIY project for me will be to design my own tube amp to drive my '73 Cornwalls after their restoration. Chuck

That said, I doubt the car that went over the cliff was a real 'vette at all, and more likely a fake of some kind or done digitally.

The 65/66 is by far the hardest of the mid years to differentiate. The clue I've always looked for is in the rocker panel covers. The '65 had almost full polish on the covers:
The '66 had a series of 4 or 5 raised ribs with black in between:
The vents on the side were identical between '65 and '66. The hood, whether small block or rat, were the same. To me, the car in the movie looks more like a '66.
In any event, I loved my '66. White, red interior, ragtop, 327ci, 350hp, 4 speed. Loved that car...
Peace

Anybody ever notice how many Jack Nicholsen movies show Mcintosh gear in the movie ? Jacks been an audiophile forever plus Mcintosh has a program where they give out gear in exchange for product placement within the movie , it wouldnt be a bad idea for Emotiva to start such a program , sure would be a great way to introduce the mystery tube gear line when it finaly hits the market .

I don't think Emotiva has the finances to do such thing. Emotiva is affordable so you don't need to be a movie start to own the gear!!!!!
