Get it shipped to closest us city across border. Drive down and get it. Save you 200 bucks at least ,maybe 300.

I see Highway #6 goes straight south to the U.S. from Regina, you could see if there any border shipping services down that way, for example I use a company called Border Shipping Services and have everything shipped to them and go pick it up on the U.S. side of the border, it's only about an hour drive each way so I spend a bit on gas but not as much as shipping to my door as I only pay the Taxes when coming back and no shipping or border fees and duty. Well Emotiva charges freight, taxes, duties, and brokerage fees. So that all adds up. Cory quoted me $40 freight using Fedex to ship a Pre-1 to Vancouver. Over $70 for the other fees.
If you get it shipped to close to the border, you pay none of that, or just the taxes at the border when you declare it.
If you are under $200 for the day, you have a good chance of being waved thru, depending in the time of day, guard, how busy, and quotas.
Just expect to pay taxes, and its a bonus if you do not. And those postal services charge a small receiving fee and sometimes their hours are not that convenient.
So is 30% savings less your time and gas money to pick it up from the US worth the hassle? Just some things to consider.
I can get to Blaine, WA and back home in about 1 hour. And there is a 24 hour postal locker service available. So I do go to go that route.

It has started getting very expensive vie FedEx and UPS is four times FedEx's price.

Well Emotiva charges freight, taxes, duties, and brokerage fees.... Actually the Canadian government is charging you. (except freight of course) Don't blame the middle man.

Not really the Canadian government, it is the brokerage fee that adds up. I ship stuff all the time to relatives in Canada and used to get lots shipped when I was in Ontario. The freight is (usually) reasonable UNLESS the vendor marks it up, convert to Cdn $ then there is the brokerage fee (Canada Post is a flat $5 normally) whereas the same package via UPS or FedEx is a minimum of $25 AND UP. Then there is duty IF applicable (China is 6.5% to Canada) add all that up TEN add the PSG/GST or HST on the price, freight, brokerage and duty. Take: Purchase $10 Freight $5 = $15 Exchange $1.20 = $16.20 Brokerage $5 (Canada Post) = $21.20 Duty $1.38 = $22.58 HST (15%) $3.39 Total = $25.97 on a $10 purchase...LOL Canadian Government gets the Duty of $1.38 and (5%) HST $1.13 so Canadian Govt take is $2.51 of the $15.97 cost above the purchase price. Just think what happens to that $10 purchase IF you ship UPS or FedEx and pay their brokerage fees starting at $20/$25+

Why only 5% of the 15% charged? ...and thanks for breaking it down like that. Almost as if someone wants you to just buy local.

Only 5% goes to the federal government out of the HST, the rest 8% in Ontario, goes to the Provincial government. I should have said 13% not 15 Oops, Delta beat me to it. lol

I want to buy an amp and it will cost me $420 for shipping and brokerage to Regina Sk. that is 42% of the purchase price of the amp Just to give an idea, this is what I've paid for a XPA-2 Gen2 + 2 RCA cables shipped to Montréal, Quebec: - XPA-2 G2: 899.00$
- XDRCA-1(x2): 28.48$
- Duties Advanced on Canadian Shipment: 60.29$
- Brokerage Fees Advance on Canadian Shipment: 33.00$
- Taxes Advanced on Canadian Shipment: 51.04$
- Freight: 89.23$
Total: 1161.04$ If I had bought the XPA-2 + RCAs in Quebec, the taxes would be around 139$. Not so big difference with Fedex estimation. Of course, you have to pay shipping also but for such big heavy box, price is is reasonable to me. At the end, I've paid 233.56$ for Taxes + shipping (+ of course exchange rate to pay in US dollars). But 420$ for shipping and taxes it's pricey. For what amp it is? One of the XPR family?

My 7-350 (120 lbs) and my pre-1 cost just under $350 extra for shipping and brokerage just 2 weeks ago. I can't see it being $400 for one amp. Something is not right. Also people seem to forget their time and gas going to pick stuff up. For me being about an hour from the boarder, by the tie I add all the time and gas up, it only saves enough money to bother if it's a really big purchase.
