Several or most of the rooms had a large knob near the computer source. It looked like it might be some sort of volume control, but I was too busy listening to pay attention. Can someone please identify the knob?

and control freak is a passive volume control...read more in my Emofest notes in the Green Room. It's described in the first post in that thread.
