I just got my XPA-2 amp and XSP-1 pre-amp and XDA-2 DAC Friday!!
My amp has bad sound on the left channel, crackly highs and lower sound output than the right speaker. I double checked all interconnects, speaker cable and switching.
When I increase the volume the amp to nominal volume level, by no means cranked up, the amp shuts down and the RED light on the left channel all light up.
The amp is set up for Balanced.
This happens when I have the DAC or turntable playing.
My speakers are new Phase Technology PC 9.5's that ran fine on my Adcom intergrated amp. The speakers are 4 ohm.
HELP!!

Swap the amp inputs to see if the crackle switches speakers.

Sensi, Thanks, I switched the amp inputs and the crackel is still on the right side and shuts down when I turn up the voluem. I even swaitch the speaker cable and the crackle is still on the right output from the amp.
I think it's the amp.

check your switch on the back and make sure it is completely engaged on balanced or unbalanced, whichever you have chosen. it might just be a short in the switch. also balanced is only used with the xlr cables. i assume that is what you have in your hookup. if you are using rca's change to unbalanced and see if that solves the problem. make sure your stereo/bridged switch is on stereo.

Check the switch as reported above.
Also rewire your speaker connection for that channel. If that fails you will have to call emotiva for a rma.

it happens. Emo wanted me to send a UPA-500 back for repair but a little cajoling on the phone got them to agree to swap out for a new one for me. To me, getting a DOA product warrants a swap....not downtime for repairs. Kudos to Emo for handling it the right way; it was my first purchase and had I been forced to send it back for repair, it would have been my last.

joe, a dead on arrival amp always warrants a swap.
that is what they did for me. i am not sure if it is policy or not, but i believe within the first thirty days they do an automatic swap.
just call tommorow. they will make it right,

Not automatic.....maybe not unless you spent more than I did. I thought it would be automatic but I had to ask for a swap as only an RMA was given for repair

Just something to note. You mentioned the left channel had crackling and then after switching the XLR wires you mentioned it is still cracking on the right channel. Unless you mistyped something this indicates the crackling switched with the wires. Also check your speaker wires to make sure there are no loose strands.
