I recently decided to update my old Olevia 32" 720p LED tv which is pre-HDMI to a new Samsung series 6 40" 1080p LED tv in my bedroom setup. Of course, going HDMI is like stacking dominoes in a line...once you upgrade one item, they all need to go. So a few weeks ago I ordered a UPA-500 and paired it with my now unused UMC-1 (I had upgraded that with the UMC-200). I replaced my old Denon 1800 receiver with this new stack and removed the old VCRs that were still in the stack (unused for years), and all the loads of thick, heavy component cables, coax cables, and fiber optic cables with 3 simple HDMI cables. All those old cables easily filled a large paper shopping bag to overflowing. OMG! What a difference in sound quality and of course in video quality. The amp power is about the same (80 watts x 5) between the UPA-500 and the old Denon, but the clarity and added punch of the separates is outstanding. My bedroom setup is just a smaller version of my living room setup with the Emo MPS-1 amp, UMC-200, and 55" Samsung LED tv in a 7.2 surround setup.
