Hi Im planning to set up two systems. First a 2.2 ch system in my livingroom (Gallo Strada and 2 x TR-3d subs + Class A poweramp) and later a home cinema in the basement (all new gear). For the cinema im waiting for the XMC-1. Buying the UMC-200 will give a nice discount on the XMC-1 but will the UMC-200 be a good dac in my livingroom setup? Does the XDA-2 outperform the UMC-200 when it comes to 2.ch stereo?
Can the stereo down-mix output on the UMC-200 be used to get stereo subs? Thanks HÃ¥kon

Can the stereo down-mix output on the UMC-200 be used to get stereo subs? Interesting idea. You'd get the full spectrum from those outputs, but you should be able to roll off the highs with the crossover controls on the subs. Wonder if there might be a phase or timing issue, tho. I think you'd be perfectly happy with the UMC-200's DAC.

How about an xda-2 and a minidsp? Manual sub eq for each sub, low pass and high pass filters in the digital domain so you wouldn't have to worry about phase issues.

I just set up my UMC-200 and Keith had said I would prefer my XDA-2 for two channel sources so I used the XD to give me analog for the UM. Smart guy that Keith!

I much prefer the XDA-2 for 2 channel. The UMC-200 is great for everything else including Blu ray audio 5.1 music. I just picked up a USP-1 at the secret sale to run the XDA-2 through. Now I'll have bass mgnt too:)

I upgrade to the XSP-1 last year, but I moved the USP-1 to my bedroom system. You will love what the combo does for your listening enjoyment.

I really do love it! There are some interesting improvements since adding the UMC-200 and replacing my pretty nice Denon AVR with the UMC. First, the video looks much better. It has higher contrast and pops more. I thought I had changed the tv settings and checked, but no, they were locked and the same as before the switch. Apparently the Denon was downgrading the video a bit. Who knew? And I was blowing off the difference at first thinking it was just my being excited about new kit when my 10 year olds noticed it.
Also, the Squeezebox through the XDA-2 sounds better through the UMC than it did the Denon. I didn't see that coming either! Of course the surround sound is improved, but that one I actually expected!

I replaced my Denon AVR-5803 with the Emotiva UMC-200. I can get a good deal on the Emo XDA-1. Just wondering if the XDA would be an improvement over the UMC-200 for 2ch listening.

i found the xda-2 gen 1 to be a lot better using usb vs umc-1 hdmi or optical.
