Hello all,
Hope to find my asnwer here because i cannot find it in the manual. It just says the EQ is off in Direct mode
I got my subwoofer 2 days ago, a BK XXL400 DF, I first hooked it up with the XLR > RCA Low level connection. And i noticed that in every way i have the receiver. Direct, Stereo and other settings the subwoofer is always working.
Shouldnt it be not active while in Direct mode ? Because this subwoofer has the option of connecting it via High level (Parallel on the speakers) for the direct mode.
But now i can dial on gain of the high and low level at the same time and it will adjust the subwoofer.

if its like other brands, the mode removes any processing and goes straightest path from input to output with just the volume control affecting output. Yamaha calls it "PureDirect"; it removes the effect of any tone controls, balance, etc from the signal path.
I've got an SR-8100 as well and will try playing with it tonight to see what difference I hear.

That is the way Direct Mode works on our equipment. However, beware! Some other vendors do NOT eliminate all processing in "direct" mode. (I know of some products which turn off the front panel display in "pure mode", and disable many of the digital processing options, but still convert analog inputs to digital and back again.) if its like other brands, the mode removes any processing and goes straightest path from input to output with just the volume control affecting output. I know that the EQ is off in direct mode just thought that it would also play 2.0 then, but its playing 2.1 So its correct that in Direct mode de LFE channel is driven ? Normally it would only play 2.0 in direct mode right ? (other brands

That is the way Direct Mode works on our equipment. Keith, Could you please elaborate on how "Direct" is supposed to work? When "Direct" is selected for a HDMI PCM input, crossover filters are still active. I've tested this with an UMC-200 but I assume the SR-8100 doesn't behave any different?

When i play an analog source in direct mode, it does not play in 2.1, it plays in 2.0.

Crossovers are still active in direct. The only exception is for analog inputs, where you have sort of a "full bypass" of the signal.
