Looking to see if I can intergrate my subs into my older rotel reciver. There is no sub output, but there are preouts,is it possible to use these to connect to the sub?
Thanks

Does the sub have high level inputs(left and right speaker inputs)? If so run a second set of speaker wires from your amp/receiver to the sub set the fronts to large/full range and use the sub crossovers.

no,it doesn't,,ultra 10 subs only have balanced or th RCA hook up. I though I read some where you could use the preouts to the sub? HMM interesting

Yes it should be possible to use the pre output to connect the sub. The pre out is designed to allow you to connect an external amp, guess what your powered sub is an external amp. Do it.

You could also buy a miniDSP to split the pre's output between sub and mains. They are 2 channel, so one unit would suffice for both channels.

Dave, connect the L&R RCA preouts from the Rotel to the RCA sub inputs (summed) on the Ultra 10 sub. Be sure and use the built-in crossover (low pass filter) on the sub. Set the LP filter toggle on the sub to ON. Presuming you have small or bookshelf speakers set the crossover frequency dial to approximately 80Hz. Smaller tower speakers do the same. Very small L&R speakers maybe 90-100Hz, but be sure the sub is up front. You most likely have no high pass filter on the Rotel. If there are any tone controls that affect the frequencies on the main speakers below 100Hz have them roll off some. To get the best blend using a source with good tight bass, turn the volume dial on the sub up very slowly until you are just aware of the sub playing and then turn it down ever so slightly. That should make for a smooth blend. If you are aware of the sub playing as a separate source then either you have the sub volume too high or the sub is not at the front soundstage of the room (this is normally only a problem if you have the sub LPF at above 80Hz). With different sources or music you might occasionally have to adjust the sub volume control.

Thanks chuckie nut,,just moved my 2 ultra 10 subs from theather to upstairs for my bookshelf speakers, have an older Rotel-1050 reciver, just used for playing music for wife while doing her choirs or for when we entertain. Thanks for giving the extra little setups specs, that will def help.Had no idea if they would work, now I don't have to put them back in there boxes.Just picked up PSA-XV15 sub,,holy crap this thing is NIGHT and DAY compared to the 2 10s I had.
