Hey Andrew have you had the chance to listen to both amps in the same setup, or has anyone else had this opportunity. I have had the XPA-2 Gen 1 but am not sure how much has changed into the Gen 2 series and if they would be a close comparison to the XPA-1L's other then the Class A ability of the 1L's. I'm on the fence and while I know they will sound different for anyone and their systems I just would like some input from someone who has heard both in the same setup.

I am not Andrew, but personally, I would get the monoblocks if I had the choice. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Since where not waiting for Andrew's answer, here's my 2 cents.
If you can afford it, go for the mono blocks. Even if you can't hear the difference between class A and class A/B you'll still have bragging rights. And if you can hear a difference you've got the best you can hear. Plus, go for a fully balanced amp. Your PT-7030 deserves it.

Peace, Nick LoL, I know I know the monos are always king, I had two UPA-1's, I'm just curious to how the XPA-2 gen2 compares to the Gen1 and if it comes close to the sound of the 1L's I'm still surprised you hear a noticeable difference between the 1L's and the XPR-1's on your Klipsch speakers.

This is just my opinion, but I have heard the two amplifiers and while both are great, I still believe the XPA-1L to be the best amp Emotiva makes pound for pound (yes the XPR-1 is "better" at the extremes, though I argue the difference is single digits at best). If your budget allows for the XPA-1L then I'd go with them and not because of things like Class A or bragging rights, it's just that everything is just that much "richer" top to bottom. Lonnie really outdid himself on the 1L. Don't fret the details of what does what and why for at the end of the day the only question that needs answering is whether or not the amp sounds good or not. I just happen to think the 1Ls are the best sounding amp we currently offer. I'd even buy them over XPR-1s, provided my speakers weren't too demanding of more power -i.e. Magnepans, MartinLogans, Revels, etc. You cannot go wrong with either, but you asked for my opinion so there you have it. Good luck!

Thanks Andrew for your opinion, like I mentioned they will always sound different in different systems and for different people, just wanted to hear from someone who has heard both in the same system or room, they have been pulling at my wallet since they were announced lol, also my room isn't overly large and my MA RX6's don't seem to need a ton of power to satisfy my needs and at times I like it loud haha. Thanks again for taking the time to answer our ridiculous questions Chad

Good luck! Just got a set of XPA1l's. In a word, NICE!. I have not heard the XPR series, or the XPA series 2, but these are a significant upgrade from the XPA2 series 1, one of which I have owned/used off and on for 5 years or so in several system configurations. I can't comment on low bass reproduction, as the amps are driving my Sunfire's which are crossed over to the subs at about 120Hz. These amps are very detailed yet sweet sounding, very musical, never harsh, never forced, but there is no straining to hear well into the recording. Images are big and well defined. The soundstage is big, wider than my Marsh 400 with good height, but the Marsh does do depth slightly better. The upper mids/treble ranges are way better than the XPA2 series 1, much better extension, detail, and delicacy/nuance. Overall, I am quite pleased. I did a few comparisons and they are just a tad richer and more transparent in class A mode, where they will likely stay given they are only powering my monitors. Well done Lonnie & company!
