I'm curious ocezam, have you heard a modded set of SDA's or just stock sets? Only stock. If you ever get a chance to listen to some upgraded SDA's you will be in for a treat. Each mod I have performed has taken my speakers to many more levels than stock and I am not even done with my mods. I believe John has done every mod known to man on his But if you are in the Boston/Worcester area, my door is always open for a listen I'm with John on this one ocezam.....I know shocker. Haven't heard the LSi/M's yet but have heard the LSi's and to my ears they have nothing on my SDA's. The LSi/M's must really be something but like you said, these are only opinions, there is no right and wrong. I'd guess that you'll still feel that way after you hear the LSiM's. Like Magnepans, those that fall in love with SDA's usually stay in love. They're simply not my cup of tea. Peace. ... I probably would still feel the same way. I have yet to hear speakers that top mine. But I am very partial to mine of course. Last time I was in my dealer I listened to some Sonus faber Cremona's, excellent speakers, and I thought that my speakers sounded better than them.

I have desperately WANTED to find a better speaker for the coin than the SRS, and I have. The problem with the Magnepan MG-20 is they demand far more space in my audio room than I am willing to give up. They beat soundly the SRS in every way, including the bass department. It is not that I am unwilling to accept there is better out there as clearly there is. For me, it is something called the "law of diminished return". At what point is the improvement not worth the investment. I have compared these to speakers costing three and four times the money and I walk away unimpressed. The Maggies absolutely stunned me with the way they shredded the SRS 1.2TL's., (this was also a side by side in my home test)but WAF comes into play as well. She prefers a speaker that does not need to take over the room. When I had the 20's, I did not have any mods done to the Polks. After the mods, they got to be pretty damn close. If I had the space for them, I would have kept the Maggies.

At what point is the improvement not worth the investment. I have compared these to speakers costing three and four times the money and I walk away unimpressed. As audio enthusiasts, we are all intimately familiar with the law of diminishing returns. IMHO MANY audio arguments really revolve around where each of us may set his/her personal point of diminishing returns. I'd love to hear a modded set of SDA Polks. It's been something just short of 2 decades since I've heard any. Certainly, speakers modded well can sound better, sometimes much better, than their stock counterparts. Personally I'm looking forward to Trey's mods of the LSiM's crossovers. I am going to keep mine for a while and won't mind putting some extra cash into them. Guys, (luvtubes, Villock) really the only two points in my post were simply that there really isn't a Polk house sound. And, as a LARGE speaker manufacturer, Polk makes many midfi speakers. A person can make some generalities about the sound of Magnepans, Martin Logan, Zu audio, and some others. These companies stick to a pretty rigid design philosophy. Polk generally starts with a clean sheet of paper when bringing new speakers to market. Monitors, Rti's, Lsi's, SDA's, et al, really have nothing in common with one another, other than a logo. Passing judgement on an LSiM, or SDA for that matter, because you've heard an RTi, Monitor, TSi or any other Polk speaker in the past doesn't work. Billy Joel wrote in his song Keeping the Faith, "the past is something that never got in my way". Polk is the same way. Each speaker line is a new horizon. Don't judge one by another. Peace.

My apologies to Harri009, the OP. Myself and a couple other Polkies really swiped your thread.
Good to hear from you again, and I agree, I couldn't live without a stereo rig, again. I did it for over a decade while raising kids and until I built a new one, I didn't realize how much I missed simple, clean, music.
Peace

It seems that the quality of XO components is a place where the cost-cutting knife slices the hardest.

And I also don't know how long I would last without a 2 channel setup It really is an escape for me at the end of a long day.
