The drug store down at the corner still has a workable tube tester.

I hear that tube tvs are way back in style. People are realizing that having a much larger picture is not all it is cracked up to be. People are yearning for the days of a one connection TV that just works. One cable from the box to your VCR to your tv. When you want the VCR to work power it on and change to channel 3. They are realizing that the softer images on the TV are much more palatable then the crisp clear accurate ones.

There is a free 27" Panasonic in my basement for anyone who wants to carry it out themselves. It has S-Video!! Only weighs about what a XPA-2 does.....

I have an RCA 27 inch console television with STEREO speakers behind red velveteen fabric and simulated oak. It has has extra RCA inputs and external speaker outs. It has a tilt out panel with all the controls on it. It is bomb proof and still works perfectly. It has a big ole remote that I believe uses a 9 volt.

The drug store down at the corner still has a workable tube tester. I wish that were the case, you have a unique corner, I had to buy my own tester ... but no desire for for a tube TV.

Lifespan of CRTs was longer than the flat screen stuff.

I am sitting almost next to a 40 inch Toshiba that actually has RGB inputs! The kids use it play a PS2, a Gamecube, and a, wait for it, Nintendo 64! I would replace it, but that would mean I have to, you know, move it! The thing feels like it weighs 300 pounds.

My first HDTV was a 32 inch Zenith Tube set. It was only 720p. I still have it. It has beautiful picture quality and Great! Black Levels. I paid $1000.00 for that set new. Even though it runs like brand new , I probably would be lucky to get $50.00 for it now.

My first HDTV was also a tube set.
It was a 34” Sony that came in at a mammoth 200 lbs. When I replaced it, I couldn’t find anyone that would even take it for free.

My main TV is a Mitsubishi 64" 3-crt rear projection set I bought for $5000 in 2002, It is HD component analog and RGB only at 1080i. I bought a Fury adapter with EDID interface to allow it to receive HDMI from BluRay and DirecTV. The picture is still excellent, but this thing is a beast - 400 lbs - no exaggeration. I have nightmares about how I will get rid of it when it finally gives up the ghost.

Mgbpuff, I had a Mitsubishi dlp set that fell to the dreaded power supply problem that bothered those tvs. I spent big bucks to have it fixed right before the Nashville flood killed it off! Since it was dlp, it was not so heavy to pick up and throw in the trash heap in the front yard.

Trey I'm only laughing because the Mitsu DLP that I have - and replaced the color wheel on - I know is succeptible to the same PS issue.

And here's the next big thing..... for REAL video purists..... It's still in beta testing, but they are thinking of calling it "Black and White". As one research engineer was heard to comment: "Eliminate a few more features; market it just right; and some idiot will buy it as a 'high-end purist component'". "This new invention eliminates all the annoying and distracting 'color sidebands' so you can concentrate on the actual picture content." www.earlytelevision.org/images/Dumont_RA-103-hd.jpg

Now that is pure.

I am sometimes amazed at what you can find a picture of on the internet. This is the first TV I remember in our house, a circa 1955 Magnavox. I have fond memories of watching cartoons on that set on Saturday mornings with my brother. It sported a 6-8" woofer and a small tweeter and sounded better than any other set we ever had.
