ATI recently came out with a Signature Series Amplifier(s) in the apparent honor of their designer, Morris Kessler.-- These amps will feature his name on the front panel. My questions is, where is the Emotiva Signature Series Amplifier by Dan Laufman or by Lonnie Vaughn? Any thoughts, suggestions, or feedback on this? Courtesy of "professionalaudio": www.proaudioinc.com/news/news.php?stID=387 "ATI's Morris Kessler Signature Series Amplifier CEDIA EXPO 2013 Show Coverage originally posted by Robert Kozell, Senior Editor Home Theater and High Fidelity ATI was showing their AT6000 multi-channel amplifier. This amplifier is designed by Morris Kessler and is part of the ATI signature series. The AT6000 is a fully balanced design which makes use of only a single input stage with dualdifferential output stages. It uses current feedback for increased amplifier speed and makes use of Thermaltrak output transistors for real-time bias optimization. It retails for $3,995 for a two-channel version and up to $7,995 for a sevenchannel model." "ATI's Signature Amp Originally posted by Thomas J. Norton Sound and Vision Morris Kessler knows his way around an amplifier. His name may be a little less well known to audiophiles than Dan D'Agostino, Nelson Pass, and John Curl, but he has been quietly designing great amplifiers for many companies at least as long as any of them--and longer than some. His current company is ATI, well known for producing solid-performing, high-value audiophile amps. This is his signature design, the first to feature his name on the front panel. Available from 2-channels at $4000 and $8000 for 7 channels, it sports 300 W continuous into 8 ohms and, in 7-channel form, weighs in at 143 lbs! It should be available in January."

It sounds interesting, but it also sounds kind of like an excuse to create amps that venture back into "stupid-level" pricing?
At the same time, it would be interesting to see what Lonnie would come up with if he was given a "cost no object" amp project.
Those prices seem high, even by taking some liberties?
XPR-7 for say, $2500 w/300-350 WPC.......... versus $8000??

Seem to remember Morris was behind the original SAE products back in the early 70's, some of my first high end gear. Later they brought in James Bongiorno to do some designs before he started GAS, had one of his SAE designs too.

Well the XPA-1 L was a pet project by Lonnie. It has "L" in its name just like the ATI has an "M" in its faceplate Maybe it should be rebadged as the XPA-1....

Why copy someone else and their marketing ploy? I'm pretty sure Emotiva can come up with a much more original name for one of their lines if they really felt they needed to.

No need for another marketing gimmick IMHO. Just continue to provide great value for money and the clients will flock.
Leave the ego out of it. Signature anything implies ego... E-G-O... not good.

I agree to a point, but if a designer puts their soul into a project, and that project is the very best of their capabilities, they should sign it IMHO. All the great works of art are signed, and great products are works of art.

If it is a special unit they've spent their heart and soul into, then fine, price it that way but signing it certainly implies arrogance or has an air of haughtiness about it. That of course is my opinion and everyone has one of those! Electronics are more science than art, although art can be seen in any shape and form. Beauty is in the eyes of the beerholder!

A 'signature' wouldn't bother me per se, but I certainly don't want to pay for it.

What would that be good for? Emotiva has already too much amps, and too less of the things you need to go with the amps: Right now no sources at all, only one surround processor for 3 series of amp, no adequate home speaker series (not speaking of the pro), none of the always promised trims to fit the series ever appeared, no network player, no subwoofers, no tuner, and the list could go on for some time... Basically I think they have more than enough amps, but are missing on a lot of other things. I do also not really see where there is an opportunity to place valve amps and pre's in the marked, that is a niche market and will not help to complete the line. It is a bit like as Emotiva is searching for a direction how to position in the market, butv there seems not to be a master plan behind this. I know that Emotiva Background is amps, but that is just not enough to complete a line, and I believe that is beyond customers' expectations.

I have one Emotiva amp, one Emotiva processor, one Emotiva preamp and a pair of Emotive speakers. The only items on my wish list right now are a pair of XPA-1L's. So it seems like Emotive have just the right number of amps to me. Cheers Gary

Odd that many of you are discussing the notion of a signature line yet aren't giving much due credit to Emotiva's XPR lineup of amplifiers. While not "signature" per se (we didn't sign 'em) they trounce most signature models...and reference...and penultimate...and, and, and.

I have a 400 horse power Mustang but it is sure not the same as a 400 horse power Porche. Is it?

I'm not quite sure what your comment has to do with mine? As much as I like Lonnie's amps, if he made a "Lonnie" amp, and charged $10k for it because it had his name on it, I couldn't afford it. Now, if he made a $250 clock. I'm all over it!
