So my UMC200 and XPA5 Gen 2 have arrived!
Boy is the XPA5 heavy, carrying in the box from the car was a breeze compared to shuffling and dragging it on the lounge floor! What a lovely piece of kit, sounds great straight out the box, so much so that my wife startled me when she commented on how clean and punchy the sound was (more bangier was the adjective used!!)
Getting to grips with the UMC 200 and all the sub menus, and so far only had to phone support once, finger trouble getting the 12v trigger to work! Even got EMOQ up, although I may go back to my settings this evening as the sound is a little flat and could well be "over" corrected to my ears
I'm not going to preach to the converted and go on and on about how good it is, you know that, just wanted to comment that this is a fine piece of kit and I look forward to many hours of excellent movie sound
Thanks Emotiva

Congratulations! I really like my UPA-2! I think you have made a great choice going separates with the processor and the amp. So are you now considering moving to the MA platinum?

Just a question, what were you using before your UMC-200 & XPA-5 combo?

Congrats on the new gear and welcome to the Lounge. I like the Apex A40s and they suit our lounge layout, my wife loves them as they are fairly discreet (if a speaker can be) and she loves the sound of them, so a bonus Just need to look at something for my surrounds, we both like the flat panel that the KEF T series has, very very discreet and blend well, but I would like MA speakers, looks tho as if the Shadow 5 could fit the bill but they are a bit longer than what I have Any other suggestions welcome though

You must see a significant improvement on sound and video (if you were going through the RXV-2700). I went from the RXV-2800 to a UMC-1 and am very pleased.

glad to hear you like the combo - i just ordered the same UMC 200 and XPA 5 - i hope i will hear a difference overall for music -
i am a little worried - at current i am running a marantz 7002 with a GX5 amp for my fronts - Klipsch 82's and the AVR doing the center and rears -
i am used to the power of the GX 5 - i hope i at least get the same feeling - and better overall - i have no reason to upgrade - just got the itch - and wanted to try Emo - separates -
this was my first AVR - great unit - but hope this does an even better job - cross my fingers !!! all these Neg. things i hear - getting me worried

can anyone tell me what kind of screws are on the sides of the XPA 5 Gen 2 amp - ? are they philips ? i ordered the rack ears for the amp - but now it looks like they are hex nuts of some sort - will make it harder for me to change them out -
can anyone who just got one confirm this ?
thanks

Have you tried Emo-Q, or the 11 bands parametric EQ? If so, how it compares with the antimode?

So this is what I wrote as my first impressions; "Good man, I've yet to try mine out in vengeance but have had an interesting weekend setting up...................and my wife has been amazingly patient whilst I try out the new toy!! Firstly, setting up the UMC 200 was not as easy as I thought it would be, the instruction book is amazingly light on detail, leaving the user to find out (stumble along) as best he can. So I got elements of the set up right but was completely stumped on getting the DTS MA decoding going, no worries though, phoned the support line in the USA and they were falling over themselves with help, talked me through the set up, reconfigured the BDP, received an e mail to confirm and finished with "You all have a nice day now", perfect help at a stressful time The EQ (EMOQ) was a doddle though, so I have completed that, and manually trimmed the SPL to suit the sound meter, and am now currently flicking between EMOQ and Flat to see which I prefer, Flat is very forward and detailed (not harsh though) EMOQ seems to quieten the detail a tad and is less forward, so I'm guessing I will settle to somewhere in between. Performance wise I have had the XPA 5 running above Reference level (85dB plus) for a few minutes and absolutely clean as a whistle to the speakers, no distortion heard, quite amazing, but more amazing is the low level volume performance, as little detail is lost, if any, and all the tones and nuances remain at low listening levels, very impressive. I'm quite pleased, I've yet to adjust to the non Yamaha sound that I have been listening to in one form or another for the past 13 years, so I will comment more once I have had a bit more listening adjustment, but sufice to say it is pretty damned good! Oh and the Apex A40s seem to sing along very well."
Be interested in feed back on my comments
lastly I have upped my Centre by 3dB as it did seem a little lost with all the other wonderful LCR activity (front channel detail is exceptional, so I am now even more pleased.
More tweaking to come!!

And now...............
There is a distinct hum on FL and FR plus SL speaker!
Tonight I will switch off the UMC 200 and leave the amp on and have a listen, will report back tomorrow
Bit irritated as this should not happen
