what is the best way to connect an equalizer between the USP-1 pre and XPA 1L amp. can it be done at the tape loop or must it be done between the pre and amp. An equalizer is required as I am using Bose 901 speakers. Also has anyone tried the XPA 1L with a tube pre.
thank you

I'm not sure what your asking, retread your post. I have 901s and they need the pre amp that should have come with them. I went , Pre-1 preamp to, Bose preamp to XPA-1L for my rig. Are the 901 s new to you?

It should be between the preamplifier and the power amplifiers.
USP-1 Preamp --> Bose 901 Equalizer --> Power Amplifier (XPA-1L)

Thank you that is how I hooked up, with my last pioneer set up it went through the tape loop just wondering if the same was possible here. Have had the 901 since 1978 just wondering too if time has passed them by with new technology and all.

I really like my 901 s as front highs I my HT 11.4 system. Something about thunder and explosions that they do so much better then most speakers. They will fill a room just not with 2 channel stereo IMHO I wouldn't waist my XPA-1Ls on duty with my 901s. Just my .74 cents worth.
Peace,
Nick

The Bose 901 equalizer is nothing more than a high shelf boost and low shelf boost, nothing too complicated.
If I remember right, both these boosts were about 12 db. This raised hell with low power amps of the day (1970) trying to drive them as that's 8 times the power at each end compared to mid-band.
Depending on the equalizer you're talking about (PEQ?), you may be able to only use it to do everything.
