I do appreciate the time this reviewer took to write this review. And the good press Emotiva is getting. But...,my issue is his pick for comparison - the marantz processor. He is reviewing a $900 analog 2 channel pre-amp. I think his comparison would be better if he had waited to pit it against an actual stereo analog pre-amplifier of somewhat closer capabilities.

I actually think he was caught by surprise, the XSP-1 just wasn't supposed to be noticeably better than a 7005. In the 7005 reviews I have read (albeit I have not read every 7005 review) they all pretty much rave over its analogue performance. I suspect that the reviewer thought it would be a fair fight, close call, maybe a draw or a win for the 7005. Like a lot of others he has learnt not to underestimate Emotiva or judge on price alone. Cheers Gary

Actually, I was reasonably pleased with it.....
Here we have someone who was quite pleased with a $1500 A/V pre/pro (and, from what I can tell, really wasn't expecting to hear anything wrong with it) admitting that music sounds noticeably better through our preamp.
To me, the message there is: "If you thought the Marantz sounded good enough that there's no point in buying a separate preamp, perhaps it's time to think again."
I don't mind that sentiment at all....

I thought it was a good review. It didn't hem and haw or use vague or ridiculous chocolately language or use idiotic terms like "good pacing" and such. It was right to the point using words that did not have to be subjected to interpretation. Whether he liked it or not (and it's good that he did), this was so refreshing as compared to other reviews that go to absurd lengths to be as esoterically esoteric.

Very well written and I didn't find myself scratching my head wondering what he meant by some of his descriptive terms.

Who cares about a good review when we can't even buy one if we wanted too. What a tease..... .....yes tounge is firmly in cheek.

I think reviews where the writer is initially skeptical turn out to be very strong. Congratulations to Emotiva, I wish I had the scratch to get one! Soon perhaps.

This review was done by Chris after he borrowed my XSP-1 to try it out. He only had the Marantz on hand to compare with it but wanted to show how a stand-alone analog preamp would compare to an AV pre-pro, which tends to be used more by the home theater crowd. With the home theater bypass the XSP-1 lets you have your cake and eat it making a strong addition for those using an AV preamp but wanting to step up their 2-channel performance without having to buy a more expensive AV preamp to get it. I thought he did a good job. I would have liked some comments or comparisons of the phono preamp performance compared to his phono pre as I know Chris is a big vinyl guy.

I thought he did nice job. Very helpful for those looking to integrate 2 channel with a home theater setup.
