I just watched a movie ("The First Time", 2013), where a teenage girl brought a new boyfiend up to her bedroom. For mood music she put a phonograph record on a turntable. She explained that though the fidelity wasn't as good as download, she liked the ritual of placing the needle on the record, and anyways she liked the old records her dad gave her. In movies, I've noticed a bunch of turntables recently. Typically either an expensive setup in a rich guys pad, or an old system and collection belonging to a luddite.
And tonight I visited a friend's recording studio. He played a flac thru his professional system with reference speakers and a treated room. I thought I had a pretty good system (see below), but I was blown away by the sound of his musical setup. It is amazing what room treatments, the right gear and enough money can do.

Well, this isn't at all what I expected.

^ What DS said. At least tell us the name of the movie, sheesh. I do agree with seeing more "vintage" gear in modern films (e.g. Star Trek: Into Darkness, Monsters University, etc.) and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

There are some good scenes about vinyl in the movie Warm Bodies that my wife was watching. It's one of those zombie apocalypse movies and it's a teen zombie boy who plays vinyl for his teen non-zombie friend. A really hokey movie, but I liked the vinyl scenes.

In the "Larry Crowne" 2011 movie, the Tom Hanks character has an extensive record collection.
My point being; in the eyes of screen writers at least, vinyl, vacuum tubes and phonograph players are once again cool...

Back in the day, I enjoyed playing BOTH teenage girls and vinyl... Not that I was ever very good with either...

High Fidelity, Ghost World, and Empire Records all feature vinyl records as well.
In American Psycho, Patrick Bateman's (Christian Bale) hi-fi system is featured prominently.
I am there there are countless others, but these immediately spring to mind.

Darn! I almost strained my neck trying to get a level view of kse's photo. Here's for you other old farts who don't have swivel necks like Linda Blair. Besides I think the vinyl craze is just another of the overblown current fads that seem to have developed a life of their own: .......... Wearing baseball caps backwards. .......... Women applying two tubes of red lipstick whenever they put on their makeup. .......... Including bacon in every imaginable type of food. .......... Women who want lips the size of those on Big Ang www.google.com/search?q=Angela+Raiola+photo&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS482US482&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=WVuSUoahA6iEiAKo74HQCg&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=1241&bih=566.......... Putting hot/spicy sauce in everything sushi. (Japanese sushi is never supposed to be spicy) .......... Covering 75% of your exposed body with tatoos. .......... Including cilantro in every imaginable type of food. .......... Women who want breasts the size of those on Big Ang. (See link above) .......... Saying hashtag instead of pound sign. .......... DAC's and 3D movies, thank God the latter is starting to fade away. .......... Wearing old faded jeans with a $300 sport coat. .......... Wearing old faded jeans with holes in the knees. .......... The Kardashians. .......... Women who want rear ends the size of those on Big Ang. (See link above) .......... Body piercing and studs. .......... UFO, Bigfoot and Elvis sightings. Update: .......... Zombies.

I'm an old fart with a decent Vinyl collection from my younger days... I still love the sound of my old LP's on modern gear! It's probably just nostalgia, but to me it has a warmth that seems missing on a lot of digital media. Back on Topic though, Vinyl does seem to be becoming more popular again (even with the younger crowd). I know it wasn't the OP's intention, but I couldn't miss out on posting aa hottie with an LP in this thread!

...It is amazing what room treatments, the right gear and enough money can do. Well, with room treatment, not so much money at all is needed to get amazing sound. For about $300 of room treatment, my sound improved MORE than with $3,000+ of gear changes. I can't say it enough - ROOM TREATMENT WORKS! Further, even if you move, you can take your room treatment panels with you. ATS sells great stuff for reasonable prices. Cheers - Boomzilla
